Chapter One

I walked next to my best friend Holly as we prepared to enter the concert. We stood ten feet away from the gates. "Are you sure this'll work?" I whispered to Holly. She nodded.
"Believe me, I do this al the time," Holly quietly replied. I took a deep breath to ease the knots in my stomach. I wasn't used to taking to some of the risks Holly got me into.
We got as close to the gate as we could. Holly stepped aside and let the people behind us pass. As they handed thier tickets to the security guard, Holly squeezed her way through with them. My cheeks felt hot as I knew I was going next. I smiled sheepishly at the next paying customers and gestured for them to go ahead. They handed their ticket to the security guard. I took a deep breath, stepped forward, and squeezed through as they did. Holly was standing not too far from the entrance as I walked through. She spotted me and started to clap.
"Shut up," I said as I joined her and we began to walk with the massive crowd in front of us. "You know I'm not used to this."
"Used to what?" Holly asked, looking over at me. "Used to using things to your advantage? C'mon Whitney, you've been-"
"I know, Holly," I stopped her. "You don't have to remind me. Besides, you know what I meant." Holly looked away from me.
   "Yeah, I'm...sorry," she quietly added.
"Forget about it," I shrugged. "Lets just enjoy ourselves." Holly looked at me and smiled. We headed up toward the lawn section; we knew there wouldn't be and open seats down below. I was following her when I suddenly ran into a guy next to me. I stopped and so did he. I looked up and began to apologize when I saw the darkest eyes I had ever seen. I just stood there. When I realized what I was doing, I shook myself out of it. "I, um, I'm sorry," I told him.
"Don't worry about it," he replied.
"C'mon Whitney!" Holly called to me. I started to walk in her direction. I looked back over my shoulder at him as he continued to watch me. I turned back around and headed toward Holly, even deeper into the growing mass of concert-goers.
