Chapter Two

"Scott, lets go!" I yelled.  I rolled my eyes and turned back toward Mem.
"Now you have the reservations, right?" she asked.
   "Yes."
"And enough gas in the car?"
   "Yup."
"And the phone number to the lodge your staying at?"
   "Yesss."
   "Enough warm clothes?"
   "Yes, Mem."
   "Food...Clothes...water...?"
   "Mem!" She stopped. "Mum, sorry."
"You take care of yourself okay?" she asked. I nodded. Scott trudged into the room. "Take care of Scott too," she said, throwing a thumb toward him.
"But Mum! She's my little sister!" Scott whined.
"Only by a year," I mumbled. He pulled on my ponytail.
"I'm driving by the way," Scott said.
"No, you're not!" I strongy replied. He giggled, kissed Mum on the cheek and ran out the door. "Scott James Timothy Robinson!" I yelled after him. He jumped into the car. I turned back toward Mum.
"I'll miss you, Liz...Whitney," she corrected herself.
"Mum, I'm sorry about earlier. You can call me Lizzy if you want. Just not around my friends." I told her.
"No, no, Whitney is your given name, I need to respect that," Mum replied.
"Alright, whatever Mum," I laughed. "We've got to go." I kissed her quickly on the cheek.
"Now Nikki is meeting you guys up at the lodge, right?" Mum asked as I picked up my bookbag.
"Yes. We'll call as soon as we get there, I promise." I told her. "Bye Mum."
"Bye," she quietly said, turning away. Mum was never big on goodbyes. I walked out the door and closed it behind me. I headed out to the car and got in the passenger side. I looked over at Scott.
   "You ready?" he grinned.
"I should be driving, you know. I'm a better driver than you," I told him, crossing my arms.
"Yeah, I know. But 1. I am older. and 2. I got the keys first." he started up the car and we were on our way.

Scott and I have been close for as long as I can remember. I was born a year after him. Mum was supposed to have another baby with me, but unfortunatly, my little baby sister died before birth. I always felt that even though at the time Scott didn't fully understand what happened, he felt a peice of guilt, and therefore stuck by me always. He tried to make the bond that only a twin could. Mum never had any other babies after that. Our Dad took off soon after. Scott's been the man of the house ever since. Even though he doesn't look the part, he does a pretty good job of it. So when he offered to go on a snow bound trip with him, I was game. And here we were.
