Chapter Four

I pulled my grey hoody zip up sweater tighter around me as a cool breeze blew through. I shivered a bit. Holly caught me.
"Lighten up," she said as we walked. "Its not that cold."
"It'll be a long night," was all I mumbled as a reply. She didn't say anything back. We were now alone on the street. The only noise was of our sneakers on the pavement. We turned right and entered the allyway. Of all the places we traveled through, this was my least favorite. I had a feeling in my stomach that someone was just going to jump out of the shadows. Luckily, no one did this trip through. We took another sharp turn right and spotted the rest of the gang. Nikki was sitting on the ground leaning up against the brick wall that seperated us from the rest of the world. Ayanna and Emily were seated near the large blue trash can that sat in the middle of our living area playing cards. I walked over to Nikki and squatted down next to her.
"Hey, How was the concert?" She asked me. I grinned and thrust my arm toward her. "Ooh, a number! Was he hot?"
"Oh yes," Holly commented from her spot trying to light a match by the trashcan. "He was a looker. Dark hair, dark eyes..."
"Okay, thanks Holly!" I laughed, stopping her. "So where's Jordan?" I asked, lowering my voice. Jordan was Emily's boyfriend. He lived out here with us. He kind of looked after us and saw that we were okay. Nikki sighed.
"They got in a fight again," she rolled her eyes, glancing over at Emily who was shuffling the deck of cards.
"Again?" I groaned. "That's the third time this week."
   "I know," Nikki nodded.
"What are you doing, Hol?" Ayanna asked. I turned my head in their direction.
"Starting a fire," Holly yawned, tossing the match into the trash can.
"Why? Its nice outside," Ayanna said, taking the cards Emily passed out to her.
"Because Whitney's a wussy," Holly sighed. I smiled at Nikki and stood up, grabbing one of our few blankets that laid next to her. I wrapped it around myself and joined Holly. As the fire grew, it lit up our faces in an orange glow. We stood there for a long time, together.
