Chapter Two

We sat awkwardly together on the couch. He sat by me, but not next to me. "So how have you been?" he asked, looking concerned.
"I've been good. Really busy with work and all," I replied. He nodded. "What about you? How are the others?"
"Oh, they're great," he smiled. "I have been...alright." Ritchie looked away.
   "So I've read," I mumbled.
"Look, Whitney, I didn't tell them to print that," he said, motioning toward the paper.
"I know," I sighed. "It's not a big deal." He opened his mouth to say something, but stopped. "What?" I prompted him.
"Do you ever think about us?" Ritchie asked, scooting closer to me than before. My heart began to race.
"Uhm, well," I stuttered, searching for words. "There hasn't been an 'us' for a while now, Ritchie."
"No, I mean the past 'us'," he explained.
"Not until today," I quietly responded, shifting my gaze from him to a spot on the carpet.
"Seriously?" Not once?" he moved a bit closer. I shook my head. "That's hard to believe."
"What do you want me to say?" I asked, looking back up at him. I was shocked from my reaction and promptly shut my mouth.
"Uhm, nothing," ritchie replied, looking down then back up at me. "You know what, I have to get going. I think I've over stayed my welcome." He said as he began to get up.
"No," I quickly said, standing. Ritchie gave me a questioning look. "I...I mean, you don't have to go. If you don't want to." He glanced around the room.
"No, I have rehearsal in about twenty minutes," he told me, making his way toward the door and grabbing his jacket.
"Oh..okay," I said, walking toward the door by him.
"It's been really nice seeing you," he told me.
"Same here," I sheepishly told him. We stood there, silent for a moment. He opened his arm and stepped toward me, embracing me in a hug. I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him back.
"Is it alright if I call you somtime?" he asked when we let go. I nodded.
"Yeah, sure, you know where to find me," I told him. He nodded and pulled open the door and stepped out.
"Bye," he said. I waved a bit as he shut the door behind him. I sighed as I locked the door. I leaned my back against it and closed my eyes, trying to grasp what just happened.
