Chapter Three

I pushed myself off the door and sighed. I turned the lock on the door and listened as it slid into place. I took a couple of steps and looked out my large bay window. The rain had slowed to a slow drizzle and the clouds were beginning to part.
I was beginning to step away from the window when something caught my eye. I stepped closer to the window and squinted, trying to make it out. Soon enough, my thoughts were confirmed. Inside of one of the parked cars outside of my house was a man dressed all in black with a rather large camera slung over his neck looking up in my direction. I felt myself getting very angry as I clenched my fists together. My nails were digging into my skin to I released them. I yanked my curtains over, closing myself off from the outside. With all that just happened I didn't need it advertised all over the tabloids the next morning.
I collapsed on the couch and brought my hands over my eyes. I had run him off because I freaked out at exactly the wrong time. I let my hands drop to the cushions as I surveyed the room. My eyes stopped when they reached the top of the entertainment system. I got up, crossed the room and carefully took down the silver triangular shaped award. I ran my finger over the cool name plate. I sighed as I remembered that night just as it was yesterday.

*Flashback*
"...and the winner is...Whitney Phillips for "Nothin But A Chance"!!" My heart stopped for a brief second as the crowd broke into applause. I looked to my right at Ritchie who was grinning. I reached over and kissed him deeply. "Congratulations," he whispered in my ear. I stood and moved out into the aisle The crowd was standing and clapping as I passed. I picked up my dress a few inches as I climbed the stairs leading to the stage. I accepted the award, nervously holding it in my hands. I stood at the podium as the audience calmed and sat again. I took a deep breath as I began my unrehearsed speech.
"Thank you, so incredible much," I began. "I have so many people in my life that got me here today. Thank you to the cast and crew, my agent, John the director, Melanie my assistant. Also, Mom, Dad, Tyson, I love you and miss you. And last but not least on any list of mine, I want to thank you, Ritchie." My eyes found him in the crowd and he smiled and mouthed 'I love you.' "You've supported me in more ways than I could ever ask. Thank you. I love you. Thank you!" I motioned with my award. The lights dimmed and the soft music started up as I headed  off stage.
*End Flashback*

I carefully replaced the award and walked back toward my room ignoring the lone tear that had silently glided down my cheek.
