Chapter Eight

I stared at the door from where I sat on the couch. I remembered that day of the argument all too well. The next day, Ritchie had come back and we sat and talked, not as heated as the night before. We decided to seperate because all the private pain we had bottled up inside of us was coming out. We parted with a simple hug and goodbye and Ritchie stepped out of my life forever.
Forever ended up being six months. It seemed like ancient history now. I couldn't believe he was back in my life again. He was always on my mind, the first thought of the day was of him and the last one was as well. I felt I was falling for him once again.
The question was - could we really make it work? I knew nothing had happened between him and Michelle at that hotel. They ended up at the same place (the lobby) at the same time and some reporters twisted it around and made it seem they were meeting for some sort of a date.
I did trust Ritchie. I didn't trust the media. I was so physically and emotionally tired at the time of the break up because of them. That was the only thing I hated about being an actress, all the published things thrown out for the public to read. I knew it was driving my parents halfway up the wall. I'd get a call about once a week from my mum wanting to know when our wedding was and why I hadn't called to inform her that her little girl was engaged. Other than that, I absolutely loved what I did. It was a dream come true.
As I was thinking of my acting, my eyes drifted to the stack of scripts that sat in the corner. I sighed as I forced myself up and off the couch. I grabbed the thick script that laid on top of the pile. I scanned over the summary. It was a romance. I was in need of some good romace scripts so I took the packet back with me to the couch. I propped my feet up on the coffee table and began to read.

A few days later I was organizine my closet and pulling out my suitcases. I had finally decided on a script and in two days I was on location to Guatamala. I was really looking forward to it. Ritchie had yet to call since the day of our kiss. After the first day I was worried that he had read the magizine like I had. I soon forgot about it, though. My phone was ringing off the hook with everyone preparing me for my trip.
I was in the middle of folding a pair of pants when the phone rang yet again. I reached to my bedside table and grabbed the small black phone. "Hello?" I sighed as I flopped down on the bed.
"Hey Whitney, how's the packing?" a familiar voice asked.
"It's alright, good thing I have two days to pack it all," I replied.
"So I booked your tickeds, I'll have them dropped off later today," Rick, one of my many managers told me.
"Sounds good," I picked at a loose thread on my comforter.
"Oh, hey, I got a premiere I need you to go to tonight since you'll be gone for a while," he told me.
"Rick, I can't!" I exclaimed. "I have too much packing to do."
"Look, you have to go. I'll send someone to help you pack tomorrow. Please? Do it for me," he pleaded.
"Fine," I caved. A soft beep sounded. "Rick, hold on, let me see who it is." I flipped my phone over. The ID said - Neville Richard. My heart pounded a bit faster. "R-rick? Yeah I'll call you back," I told him. I clicked over, hanging up on him. "H-hello?"
"Hey," Ritchie greeted me. "How are you?"
   "Good," I replied. "Busy packing."
   "Oh," was all he answered.
"Yeah, I'm headed to Guatamala in two days," I told him.
"Can I ask you something?" he suddenly wondered.
"Yeah, what is it?" I asked, tucking my legs under me.
"Did you read it?" he timidly asked. I swallowed.
"Yeah, I did," I quietly responded. "Look, Ritchie, I have been thinking about us a lot in the past few days. I'm really sorry about what happened between us. Can we...put it all behind us?"
"Yes," he breathed. "Yes I'm so happy you said that." I smiled.
"Oh, Ritchie, what are you doing tonight?" I asked him.
   "Um, nothing why?" he wondered.
"I have a really lame movie premiere to go to and I thought you'd like to come along?" I asked.
   "Sounds like fun," he replied.
"Really? Oh that's great. I'll pick you up around 7, okay?"
   "Sure."
"I'll see you then," I smiled. We said our goodbyes and I hung up. I quickly dialed Rick's number. "Rick? Yeah, it's Whitney. Listen, I will go to that premiere tonight, and I won't be alone."
