Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
The Night Elves’ 3 new units are very well designed and meant to cover up the problems in the race. The Night Elves’ new hero unit is WARDEN MAIEV, designed like an assassin. The Warden is designed to kill and do lots of damage quickly in combat, but has low hit points. She has 4 new abilities. Her Blink ability allows her to teleport instantly across the screen. This means she can appear behind the enemy’s frontline and attack the weak units from behind and do a surprise attack. Blink takes up only a little bit of Mana and can be devastating if used with her other abilities. Fan of Knives can be used to attack multiple enemies all at once. The Warden spins around and throws out a bunch of knives. It can attack 5-6 enemies all at once and do 150-200 damage to each enemy depending on the level. Though very effective against a group of enemies, it’s not the ideal attack to use on a single enemy. There’s a better attack for that: Shadow Strike attacks the enemy with a poison dagger. It does around 200 damage the first time and continues to do 45 damage every 3 seconds for a total of 5 successive rounds. Sprit of Vengeance is the Warden’s best ability and is designed for use when a battle isn’t going the right way. It raises the spirits of the dead friendly units and combines them into 1 super spirit that has massive HP and attack damage. The more dead units you have, the more powerful the spirit becomes and maybe it might be able the turn the tides of a losing battle. THE MOUNTAIN GIANT is one of the Night Elves’ new units. The Mountain Giant is made out of rock so it has lots of Hit Points, does lots of damage and is made to be a shield for the other weaker Night Elf units. One of the ways it does this is with its Taunt ability. Taunt makes all nearby enemy units attack the Mountain Giant and lets your spell casters and other units freely do their work. The Mountain Giant can also be turned into a siege weapon using its Grab Tree ability which lets it do additional damage to buildings. It can also Upgrade itself with “Hardened skin” which reduces physical attacks by 20 points and “Resistant skin” which reduces the effect of spells. THE FAERIE DRAGON, like the Dryads, is built as an anti-caster unit and is immune to spells. Its Mana Flare ability makes it turn into small glowing ball which deflects part of the enemy’s area-of-effect spell back on the original spellcaster. A group of Faerie Dragons together using Mana Flare can be enough to kill off a small group of enemy spellcasters. The Faerie Dragon was also supposed to have a Phase Shift ability which would let it avoid physical attacks. But this ability was taken off and will be replaced by another one. As I said before, each race will have a new building that will allow players to buy items. The Night Elves’ shop will be a Den of Wonders and as many as 10 items can be bought from it as the game progresses. Though it’s currently a building, it will soon be changed into an Ancient, allowing it to move and defend itself like other Ancients. One of the items that will be available there is the moonstone which instantly turns day into night. This would allow the Elves to take advantage of their night abilities. Another item is the Staff of Preservation that’ll instantly transports a unit to the highest-level town hall. They can also buy the Orb of Venom which adds ranged attack and damage to your hero while it poisons an enemy unit for 10 seconds.
