Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne

Developer: Publisher: Release Date:
Blizzard Blizzard Jun 24, 2003

Even though the Orcs aren’t included in the main story campaign, they’ll get the new hero and the two new units. The new Orc hero is the Troll SHADOWHUNTER. Its first spell is Hex. This spell works like a polymorph except it’s not as useful. It turns the subject into a random critter while it keeps it’s regular health and armor. The effects last for 10-30 seconds depending on the level and then the unit returns to its normal form. Hex can also be used on Heroes and Creeps, though the effects don’t last as long as on other units.

Healing Wave was given to the Shadowhunter since the Orcs didn’t really have anyone who could heal units while still at low levels. The Healing wave works like Chain Lightning but instead of doing damage, it heals. The target of the spell gets healed the most and then the spell moves along, going to the next most damaged unit for a total of 5 units. The spell heals less with each successive unit.

The Shadowhunter’s 3rd ability, Serpent Ward was given to keep the witch-doctor style of play. When activated, it creates a small serpent head that attacks the enemy with small fireball. It’s basically a smaller version of a defense tower. It’s immune to magic but it can easily be destroyed by a melee-attack since it only has a bit over a 100 HP. It’s cheap and it has a pretty fast recovery time so it’s possible to make a few of them all together.

Voodoo is the Hero’s ultimate spell and it has quite a big impact. It turns all of your nearby units invulnerable to attack. This has two downsides though. The first one is that the Shadowhunter needs to stay totally still during the spell. The second one is that the Shadowhunter becomes the only unit that can be attacked during that time so it’s not wise to use it near ranged units unless you’re willing to let him take some damage.

The two new Orc units are the TROLL BATRIDER and the SPIRITWALKER    . I don’t have much information about the Spiritwalker yet except that it’s a sacred Tauren. I’ll keep you guys informed on that and let you know more about it whenever I hear anything.

The Troll Batrider specializes in attacking air units and buildings. It’s first ability, Unstable Concoction is a suicidal attack. Lead the Batrider into a group of enemy air units and the Batrider will explode hopefully, take down some enemy units with it. This only effects enemy air units so ground units and buildings would remain unharmed. The Batrider’s second ability is Liquid Fire and its an upgrade that can be purchased at the Beastiary. It’s the obvious technique for taking down enemy buildings. Once a building is hit with Liquid Fire, it continues to take damage and it can’t be repaired by anyone until the fire stops.

The new Orc shop is the Voodoo Lounge. One of the items that will be available there is the Healing Salve. This has 3 uses and can be used on any unit. It lets units regenerate for 30 seconds. Another item is the Tiny Grant Hall which will let an Orc hero make a Town Hall anywhere without using a peon. They can buy the Wand of Neutralization which removes the effects of spells from up to 5 friendly units. They also get a special Orb like all the other races and that’s the Orb of Lighting. This adds ranged attack, lightning damage and a chance to remove positive spells from enemies and slow him for 3 seconds.
Next: Neutrals
