Mock-up week in Detroit

The time had to come. When your list of needed parts gets short, and your friends are giving you crap, it's time to put up or shut up. That being said, I packed up the whole show and went to Steve's garage in Detroit for a 9 day wrench and fabrication fest.
We got the major fabrication stuff out of the way and all that is left is: Exhaust, electrical, hose clamping.
That first step was to start with the front end. We used a hidden fork stop, so we had to grind out a pocket for the pin in the neck tube.
Next we dry fit the cups about a thousand times
When we got happy with the fit, we mounted the front end and attacked the front wheel.
We decided to use custom cut spacers to get the closest tolerance on the berings. I was happy how it came out.
The back wheel, spacers and drive alignment were another story all together.
We started thinking that the spacer on the left was going to be about 3.25 inches......WRONG!
After some high tech work with a piece of yarn and a straight edge we settled for 2 inches on the button. That worked a lot better at keeping the rear tire in the center of the frame and the belt tracks right down the pipe. ;-)
Once all that freating was over we snugged up the motor and trannie and marked their position for the powder coater and painter.
I really like the shift rod.
The oil tank worked out ok. We fabbed a mount that j-hooks under a bar to the mount tabs. Even if the mount breaks the bar will rest in the j-hooks and keep the bag in place until you can get somewhere.
The handle bars were pre-assembled from the supplier so we just snaked the wires and hoses through the trees and bolted them on.
We put on the bars so we could work on the gas tank. We had to weld on the tabs so we had to take some parts out after we used popsickle sticks to space the tank up off the backbone. I wanted low and sleak so it's real close. The final positioning came down to where the pop-up cap and petcock were located. The fuel line has a straight shot to the carb and I'll be feeding the beast through the handlebars.
