Young Adult Bible Study
Young Adults Fellowship and Learn God’s Word during Bible Study
Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. -- Philippines 2:1-2
The scripture teaches us that we are not only supposed to have fellowship with God, but also with other Christians in the body of Christ. This is one of the primary goals of Young Adult Bible Study: to fellowship and unite by means of studying God’s word. Young Adult Bible Study, which targets those ages 18-35, creates a forum where young adults can discuss current events and personal experiences, and relate them to the word of God. “In Bible Study, we attempt to utilize different techniques not only to make scripture easier to learn, but to make the Bible more exciting and applicable to an individual’s life. Most times, we attempt to speak more general truths rather than being overly technical,” states Jaron Singley, Young Adult Bible Study co-instructor.
The intimate group, under the instruction of Jaron Singley and Brendon McMillan, meets every Wednesday from 7:30-9:00 pm. “Bible study is great,” says Judy Palmer, a regular bible study attendee. “I really like how the teachers provide skills for everyday living. They really break down what God expects of us as Christians. Even more importantly, discussing in detail the way in which God wants us to live keeps me focused.”
Aside from being a platform to discuss the parallels between biblical times and current days, Young Adult Bible Study is a place where one can learn bible study skills. Providing background on book authors and discussing brief timelines helps lay the foundation for a deeper understanding of the parables. “We would like to see students beginning to carry-out their own bible studies,” says Singley. “Even more importantly, we would like to see students be able to effectively apply learned material to their daily lives.”
