HAVE A LOUGH ‘Come on, Andrew.’ Said his mother. ‘Hurry up or you’ll be late for school.’ ‘ I don’t want to go to school.’ said Andrew. ‘ But you must.’ insisted his mother. ‘The teachers all hate me, and I hate them.’ moaned Andrew. ‘ Even so...’ began his mother; ‘ The children don’t like me and I don’t like them either.’ said Andrew. ‘ You still have to go.’ said his mother. ‘ But why must I?’ he asked, his eyes filling with tears. ‘ Well,’ replied his mother, ‘ first of all, you are fifty years old, and seconly, you are the headmaster of the school...’ I want to teach the difference between ‘must’ and ‘have to’. I will begin the lesson by telling this joke. A SIMPLE GESTURE Mark was walking home from the school and came accross with a boy. The boy was carrying lots of things in his hands. He dropped some of his books. Mark knelt down and helped him.. He discovered that the boy’s name was Bill. They realized that they like the same things.... While they were walking, Bill talked about his problemles about his lessons and girlfriend.. After that day, they continued to see each other and they became good friends. One day, Bill wanted to talk to Mark. He reminded the first day when they firs met. ‘ Do you ever wonder why I was carrying some many things?’ asked Bill. ‘ You see, I cleaned out my locker. Because I was going home to commit suicide. But after we spend some time with you, I realized that I might miss that time and the other times. So, Mark when you picked up my books you did a lot more. YOU SAVED MY LIFE.’ By reading this short story at the beginning of the lesson, I will teach ‘ past continuous tense’. Submittted by, Dilek Ahraz 3-C/ELT |

III. I thought that the students learned the simple past tense on the last lesson and today, before the lesson, I want to play a game with them about the past events in order to remind them the subject. GAME ABOUT THE PAST A) In the first part I ask students what did they do yesterday? And then in three minutes, I want them to write as many sentences as them can about what they did yesterday by using a sheet of paper. B) In the second part, they work in group and I ask students to take turns reading their sentences aloud. After each sentence is read. I ask everyone who wrote the same sentence to cross it out. Next, the person with the largest number of sentences that are not crossed out wins. Submitted by Neslihan Avan 3-C/ELT |
Hello. my lead activity are a joke and showing pictures. I give you the joke. Mrs. Williams loved flowers and had a small but beautiful garden. In the summer, her roses were always the best in her street. One summer afternoon her bell rang, and when she went to the front door, she saw a small boy outside. He was about seven years old, and was holding a big bunch of beautiful roses in his hand. 'I am selling roses' , he said. 'Do you want any? They are quite cheap. Five pence for a big bunch. They are fresh. I picked them this afternoon.' 'My boy,' Mrs. Williams answered, ' I pick roses whenever I want, and don't pay anything for them, because I have lots in my garden.' 'Oh, no, you haven't,' said the small boy. 'There aren't any roses in your garden-because they are here in my hand!' I can use this joke in teaching Simple Past Tense and countable and uncountable nouns. Submitted by Fatma Kirlar 3-C/ELT |
HAVE A LOUGH A young lady went to a fortune teller to have her fortune told. The fortune teller answered two questions for 100 dollars. Although she was surrprised at the amount she had to pay, the young lady gave her the money. ‘Don’t you think that 100 dollars is rather a lot of money for just two questions?’ ‘Yes, it is,’ answared the fortune teller, ‘Now, what is your second question?’ I will teach ‘past tense’ with the help of this joke. SHORT STORY At the beginnning of the lesson, the teacher asks the students whether they like stories, write storrries or not. S/he may also ask them what their favourite stories are. Then , the teacher reads a story by the Greek writer, Aesop. Once upon a time there was an old man. This old man had a monkey. The old man often fell asleep in his chair in the afternoonns. The monkey sat next to him and chased the flies away. One afternoon the old man was very tiredd so he fell asleep in his chair. A fly came quietly and sat on the old man’s nose. The monkey chased the fly away. Soon the fly came back and sat on the old man’s nose again. The monkey chased it away, but he got very angry. He ran to the garden quickly and picked up a large stone. The fly sat on the old man’s nose a third time. The monkey hit the fly with the stone. He killed the fly, but he also broke the old man’s nose. This story can be told to the students in order to introduce and provide them to hear the ‘simple past tense’. In the first reading of the teacher, the students will listen the story and in the second listening the students will select the words in the past tense. Submitted by, Rabia Deynekçi 3-C/ELT |

Lead-in Activity to teach Simple Present Tense and frequency adverbs. by showing pictures, Jack Turner is a postman. He works for the post office and, he usually works with the help of a motor-cycle. He delivers letters to about a hundred houses spread over a large area of hilly, farming country. This is his official job, but it is only a small part of the work he actually does. Besides taking letters to different houses, he often helps the people in his area in different ways. When they are ill, he finds a doctor for them; he sometimes goes shopping for them; and he carries the daily news from house to house. Submitted by Fatma Kirlar 3-C/ELT |
I can use this story to teach type 2 If clauses while showing pictures related with the topic. A POOR FARMER A poor farmer once had a friend who was famous for the wonderful apple trees which he grew. One day his friend gave the farmer a young tree and told him to take it home and plant it. The farmer was pleased with the gift, but when he got home he didnot know where to plant it. If he planted the tree near the road, strangers would steal the fruit. If he planted it in one of his fields, his neighbours would come at night at steal some of the apples. Submitted by Gullu Mike 3-C/ELT |
