How it's Done:
From a boat: Still fishing from a boat is probably the most productive way to catch sturgeon. When you get anchored over a likely spot cast out behind the boat and wait for the subtle pump on the end of your rod. Sounds easy doesn't it.
Anchoring: Never throw your anchor, ease it into the water. Put a float or bouy on the end of the rope (bleach or large detergent bottle will work). Now you can release the anchor if "Moby" sturgeon decides to spool you. You will also be in the same spot when you return.
From shore: The key to bank fishing is to pick a clear area without debris or snags. Having room to follow a fish up and down the bank will increase your chances. You may need heavier weights and a longer pole for casting distance.
Either way: Keep an eye on your rod. Patience is a virtue. Bring plenty of food and drink. A bell on the rod may be a little help detecting strikes.
