Azuel's interview
<><><><><><><><><><>

1)When did you first learn the existance of Cland.
I learned of Clandestine’s existence around December ’98, when
Clandestine was made MudConnector MUD of the month. A friend from
Ultima Online learned about it and dragged me over.

2)when did you start coding for clandestine, what was that first thing?
I honestly have no idea when I started coding for Clandestine. It feels
like it’s been ages. The first thing I coded was a mob command function
called ‘mob math,’ which allowed mobprograms to perform mathematical
calculations. That was also the first C function I had ever written.

3)what was the one thing that you coded that you liked the best?
Probably my area generator. There’s a few different versions – one
makes a simple maze, another an extremely complicated maze full of doors
and magical traps, and yet another that creates a complete area,
including dynamic intelligent room descriptions, room names, and flags.
The last of the three, which was actually created first, is probably
my favorite of all.

4)How old are you in real life?
I’d tell you, but it’s more fun when no one really knows.

5)Are you really a prodigy? Did you know how to code/do coding when you
were like, 5 yr old?
A prodigy? Hardly. While it is true that I was programming a very
young age, I’m more inclined to say that I’ve always just had a knack
for coding projects.

6)What makes you stay in Clandestine?
Over the years, I’ve developed a strong sense of loyalty to Clandestine.
Don’t get me wrong – I’ve attempted to quit before, but it just never
worked. Clandestine is just a part of me.

7)Ever thought of starting your own MUD?
No, I hate being in charge of such things. I just really enjoy
programming. I have assisted some other MUDs with their coding over the
years, but that’s about as far as it’s ever gone.

8)Where do you see cland in 5 years, and beyond?
I honestly have no idea. Hopefully we’ll have the server issues
straightened out in the next few weeks, after which point in time we’ll
be, at least, stable and consistent again. One step at a time, eh?

9)What do you do when you are not playing cland?
Chances are I’m at work, or writing some other code.

10)Has cland had any improvement/disimprovement in your life?
Considering I’ve been with Cland for somewhere around six years now, I
could write books on this topic. Suffice it to say, I’ve grown a lot
through that time. As I said before, I stick with Clandestine out of a
sense of loyalty – in part because I feel I owe Clandestine a lot for
being there for me over the years, and allowing me to grow and evolve.

Thanks Azuel for your time...
