"You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first and then heaven, and that heaven was copied (pasted) after Mauritius" 1896, Mark Twain

Let me tell u a bit about the place, its history and a lot of practical info (more useful than the history).

Official Name: Republic of Mauritius
Area: 1860 Kms
Capital: Port Louis
Official Language: English, French
Main Religion: Hinduism
Time: +4 Hrs GMT; -1.5 Hrs IST

Basics: The place is a nature lovers dream come true. It has locations which are just as they appear in Hindi movies and the beaches are amazing. An Ideal place for your honeymoon. (first, second or with kids!).

Geology: Mauritius is considered to be one of the peaks of a submerged volcanic range that stretches from Seychelles to Reunion.

Best Time to visit: Well, people don't get married looking at the weather. Some of our friends have landed up in the peak of Mauritian winters. One can't step into the water when its freezing (so u can forget two!). Time to avoid: June/July/Aug/Sept, unless you want to get away from the Indian Summers.

Language: People here can speak French, Creole and English. 80% of the locals being ex-Indians, can speak Hindi and Bhojpuri. So language would not be a problem if you are heading from the Indian Subcontinent.

Food: Veggies beware. This is an island (hence has water all around) so sea food and non-veg rules. Veggies will be wasting their money if they stay at really expensive hotels. You can always give us a call and we can take you around to cool Indian joints.

Hotel Bookings: Try to get deal with both meals included. There is little scope that you will be able to step out of the hotel. Most hotels are along the beach and one can't really step out ant hunt for food at night.

Location on the Map: "It's a dot"- Dr Victor, 2003. Located 800Kms east (right) of Madagascar Island (in the Indian Ocean). Its a 6 hour flight from Bombay.
