Modifications III
Odds and Ends
Next set of improvements:
- Skid plate -
Tomken
- After denting my oil pan, its time for some more
protection underneath. Hopefully this sucker will not be
too much of a pain at oil change time.
-
- Winch - Warn
- One of the first big buck items most wheelers get. It only took me 3
years. However, either I dont wheel hard enough, or the TJ does pretty
well. Only needed a tug a few times, and a tow strap is usually quicker
and has sufficed to date.
TIP: I used some hosepipe to protect the wires running back to the
battery.
-

- Canyon City Tire Rack
- I picked this up used from Chad Crowell, and finally got it installed
in January. Its pretty good, sturdy and nicely complements the confer
lobo bumper I already had in the rear. The rack attaches via the hinge
pins for the tailgate. I like this setup as it is not putting a lot of
stress (torque stress) on the rear crossmember, and it is not attached to
both the body and frame. Pics to come.
Fender Flares - Xenon
- Finally found some used Xenon flares and installed them in hopes that it
would help prevent mud and dirt from spraying the side and insides of my
jeep.

- Gears - Yukon Gear 4.56
- After driving and wheeling for over three years with 33" tires and stock
3.55 gearing, its time to finally do something about it. I'm upgrading
to 4.56, which should not be to bad with I6/5spd/33" tire combo. Street may
not be optimal for fast freeway driving (70+mph), but 98% of my driving is
done as slower rates.
Locker - OX locker up front
- While regearing, this is the best time to put a locker in - the diffs
only need to be setup once putting the locker in with the new ring&pinion at
the same time. After much thought, I decided to go with the OX locker up
front in the D30. I absolutely want to be able to turn it off (daily
driver), thus the extra $$ for a manual locker, but could not justify doing
both ends to my wife. Thus only the front is getting locked for now. The
trash-loc is still in the back, so I still have something back there.

Notice how the cable is routed, out of the way. The
swaybar mount had a notch cut into it.
