Susan Ann Kemp McGrew

My great Great Great Grandmother

The following is from A Twenty Year Search of the Family of Henry Mortimer McGrew and his wife Susan Ann Kemp compiled by Esther McGrew Hardin. I'm going to put some short paragraphs in here in no apparent order, they are memories of several people.

Susan Kemp was born April 23, 1818 in Craven County, North Carolina to John C. Kemp, probably the son of Isaac and Sarah Kemp, and Ann Rowe, probably the daughter of Benjamin Rowe and Lucinda Holland. She married Henry Mortimer McGrew on June 21, 1839 in Alabama.

Cassie Oldham Williams Woody.Mother(Rutha McGrew Oldham) said her Grandma(Susan Kemp) was a small woman... the McGrews were not very large or tall...her Grandma could make real good chicken dumplings and chicken dressing. They didn't visit very much for dinners because they were all having a hard time feeding their own families, but they all went to church at Pipe Creek near Arthur (Indian Territory).

During the Civil War she lived about 10 or 12 miles from Mobile, Alabama. She had a farm, raised tobacco and other farm crops.
