Avery Andrews was born November 13, 1891 in West Stafford,
Connecticut. Avery served in the U.S. Army in France in
World War I as an ambulance driver. When he came home, he
spent a year in Arizona. He loved the climate there but
never returned. Most of his life he was a carpenter in
Springfield, Massachusetts. He built the four Andrews "cottages"
at Crystal Lake and the log cabin in the same neighborhood.
He married Gertrude Donovan July 5, 1920 in Springfield, and they lived in Springfield for many years and spent Summers at the Lake, eventually living there year round. He died in February 1978 in Rockville, CT.
