FINALLY ~ CHAPTER FIVE
She was
beautiful. Her long blonde hair was flowing in the breeze. She was wrapped in a
colorful flowered sarong and a white flower was tucked behind her ear. Her body
was shadowed by the glare of the tropical sun at her back. She brought her hand
up and beckoned to him...he tried to get up off the sand. He tried to go to her.
But he felt a coldness seeping through his body. Then a hot searing pain in his
ribcage. The pain continued to grow as her image faded away.
Jason
opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was the whiteness of the snow he had
buried his face in. The pain was so real now. He rolled over and looked down at
his hand. He saw the blood. He was suddenly aware of his surroundings. And his
desperate need to get up and get out of there. He felt a foot poking him in the
back.
"Well, if it isn't Jason Morgan. We got quite the catch here." The
cold black eyes of Anthony Moreno were staring down at him. "Corinthos will know
I am not to be trifled with...when I send your head to him in a cardboard box."
Jason squinted at the man above him. He knew Moreno would kill him.
Without hesitation. But he was not going to die. Carly and Michael needed him.
It was their faces that ran through Jason's mind as his reflexes took over and
he pulled his 9 milimeter out of his jacket. He fired and than ran. He couldnt
breathe, he couldnt think. He just ran.
Carly was grateful that AJ was on a business trip. She was so
shaken over her confrontation with Hannah, that she didn't even believe she was
capable of lying. She knew Jason's wrath over her actions would be fierce. But
she believed in what she had done. It was rash, it was ill advised, and it broke
the promise she had made Jason...but she refused to let that deter her. Hannah
was going to be out of their lives for good.
She heard her cell phone
ringing in her purse and she pulled it out. AJ usually called every evening and
she almost let the phone ring without answering. But she felt a tiny tug at her
heart to answer. "Hello."
"...Carly?" Jason's voice was hoarse and
strained on the other end of the line.
She felt panic rising and her
stomach dropping. "Jason! Oh my god...Jase what's wrong?"
"The...the
boxcar..."
"Jason! Jason!" She screamed into the phone but the line was
dead. She grabbed her purse and ran frantically into the front lawn of the
Quartermaine mansion. She pulled her phone out and desperately tried to muster
the ability to dial a taxi. But by then she was crying so hard and her fingers
were shaking so badly she couldnt.
"Carly? Are you okay? What happened?"
Ned grabbed her shoulders and looked at her in the eyes.
She struggled
back a sob. "Take me to the boxcar..please Ned."
Ned knew of the Boxcar
that had been the former home of both Jason and Lucky Spencer. He didnt know why
Carly wanted to go there but he had a feeling something was wrong with Jason.
Ned and Jason hadnt been especially close but he was going to help any way he
could. "Come on, my car's in the driveway."
Hannah opened her eyes. She felt her hands bound behind her back
and the cotton feel of a gag in her mouth. Her arms and ankles had been bound to
the back of chair and she was unable to budge. She tried to scream but her voice
came out muffled through the fabric.
She took a good look around. It
seemed like a cabin. Perhaps on the lake. It also looked like no one had been
there for years. It was covered in dust and plastic covers lay on most of the
furniture.
"Good you're awake. You can scream all you want to but no one
can hear you for miles out here."
Hannah turned her head to see Johnny
sitting in a chair about ten feet away. He had loosened his tie and was looking
at the gun in his hand. She had always liked Johnny but it never occured to her
until now how intimidating he could look. She knew from Carly that Sonny had
found her out. Surely he wasnt the one who orchestrated this kidnapping. She
didnt even want to contemplate the idea that Sonny could have ordered her dead.
Or that Johnny would be the one to pull the trigger.
Johnny stood up and
walked over to her. He looked at her and hesitated for a moment. Then he removed
the gag from her mouth. Without saying a word he returned to his seat.
"What the hell is going on Johnny?" It was a stupid question and she
knew it. But she still felt it was necessary to ask.
"Well Miss Scott.
You are being held here until' I hear otherwise." Johnny's voice was the same as
it always was. Polite and almost meek.
"Until who says otherwise?" Don't
say Sonny. God not Sonny.
"The person in charge." With that Johnny stood
up and walked out of the room.
Hannah wanted to scream bloody murder. To
try and alert anyone who could hear her. But she was sure Johnny was telling the
truth. That no one would.
Ned never asked her why she needed to go to the boxcar. He never
questioned why she was so upset. He just drove and then stopped on the road
closest to where she could access it from foot.
Carly reached for the
door but stopped when he placed his hand on her wrist. She looked over at him
and even through her panic she could feel the concern in his touch. The
tenderness in his eyes. She remembered that look. He had shown it to her once
before when he had visited her in Ferncliff. She smiled weakly in spite of her
fear. "Ned...thank you." She said it softly. Genuinely.
"If you need
anything...." He pulled out a card from his pocket and handed it to her. "If
they ..." Jason's name was unspoken but understood between them. "...need
anything. Please call."
Carly nodded and then bolted from the car. She
saw the boxcar and began to call out for him. "Jason! Jason!" She was so
panicked she didnt notice the drops of blood in the snow by the door. She just
climbed in.
Carly felt her heart almost stop. Or maybe that was the
feeling of it being ripped from her chest. He was lying on the floor with his
back against the freezing cold wall of the boxcar. His eyes were closed. His jaw
was clenched. She thought he was dead. "Oh God...Jason.."
Her knees
buckled and she fell to the ground. She crawled over to him and reached a hand
to his face. A prayer was repeating over and over in her mind. Don't let him
be dead, God, just let him be okay...
His eyes opened as he felt her
fingers across his cheek. She was kneeling over him with her head bowed and her
hand idly carressing his face. "Carly..." His voice was almost a whisper.
Her head snapped up suddenly. "Oh God, Jason. I was so scared you were
dead." She looked at him in awe. she reached forward desperately and took his
face in her hands.
"Not yet..." He chuckled softly.
Carly was
still crying. "Are you okay?" She began to look him over for bruises or cuts.
Then she saw it. The blood seeping through his shirt. "Oh God...Jason you've
been shot."
Jason just nodded. "Listen, Carly. You cannot tell
Sonny. You understand?"
Carly looked at him bewildered. "Jason we need
to take you to the hospital."
"Carly, did you hear me? Sonny can not
know where I am."
"But Jase, he's gotta get you help. I know he has
doctors."
"Listen to me Carly. I betrayed Sonny. He cannot know
I'm here."
The weight of Jason's word started to seek through Carly's
panic. "Jase, I'm going to get you help. I am not going to let you die.
You hear me?"
Jason nodded. "Carly, there's something I need to tell
you. There's something I want you to tell Michael."
"NO Jason! Don't do
that. Don't even think about saying goodbyes. You hear me? I'm going to go get
you help." Carly leaned and kissed him on the mouth. She felt his lips respond
to hers with a tenderness she hadnt felt in their last kiss. All the love and
passion she felt for him broke her heart. "I love you...okay? I'll be back with
help." Her words came out as a sob as she let go of his face and exited the
boxcar.
