FINALLY ~ CHAPTER SEVEN

"Hey Stranger....Remember me?"

"I remember."

Over the next few hours Carly remembered everything. Every word. Every touch. Every special moment she and Jason had ever shared. Bobbie had treated his wound and helped Carly get him to Jake's. Upon their arrival Carly was shocked to discover that Jason had kept his room there and even given Jake more than she asked for in rent money. Bobbie had left to get some sleep and promised to be back in the morning to check on Jason. But Carly couldn't sleep. Not until she was sure he would make it. Not until she was able to tell him she loved him one more time.

"You know, when you showed up that night, it was raining. You were so scared. You needed me. You asked me to take care of Michael, and that's when my life started. A life I thought I could never have, more than anything I could ever imagine. It was all because of you. It's true, Carly, you are a lot of trouble. You make things more complicated than they are, but you showed me new things. You gave me a year and a half that no one can take away. Nothing will change that..."

He had been running from a family he couldnt remember. She had been looking for the family she had never had. She had come to Port Charles hoping to find the love she had always been missing. But she hadn't found it with Bobbie. She had found it with Jason.

"Nobody ever tried to see me ever. Until I met this one guy, this stranger guy. And the first time I met him he didn't even ask my name. But I'll tell you something. I think I knew even then that he'd be the only person who ever knew me."

She looked at her hands. The rings Jason had placed there stared back at her. An unspoken promise. And unspoken love.

"Alright, you tell me, has Amanda Barrington ever fought like a wild animal for her kid? Hmm?

"Probably not."

"Did she ever turn the great Dr. Evans at Ferncliffe red and make steam come out of his ears?"

"Definitely not."

"Ok, did she ever whack a probably rapist with a tire iron outside of Jakes in the alley?"

"Did I?"

"So you tell me which one is the great lady."

Carly looked down at him. Jason was unconcious and his hair was damp with sweat. His shirt was open and the bandage on his ribcage was visible. She felt like her heart would break.

"Do you understand that you believing in me is the best thing that's ever happened to me?"

She refused to lose him now. Now that they were so close to having everything they had ever wanted. A family...just the three of them. "Don't leave me, Jase. Not now." She whispered as a tear rolled down her cheek. "Please..."

"Love is not what you say, it's what you do. Anybody can talk a bunch of mush, but it's what you do that really matters. You know, your actions. I mean, like stretching yourself, you know. Doing something you really hate for the person in your life. That's love. That's real love. That's what I get from Jason."

"I don't know if you can hear me right now Jason. But if you can, I want you to listen. You're the only person who's ever loved me. I mean really loved me. No matter what I did or how bad it got. You loved me." She reached down and took his hand into hers.

"I think I could ask you for your whole heart, even if I broke it. You know, because you already have mine."

"It might not be the bring you roses kind of love. Or the chocolates on Valentine's Day kind of love. But that's not what I need from you."

"I love you so much, Jason. And I know it doesn't mean the same to you as it does to me but I know that... I know that you love me too. And I'll always love you..."

"When my baby needed a father, you gave him one. When I got locked in a mental institution, you got me out. When I hit rock bottom, you saved me Jason. That's how I need you to love me...that's it." Tears were streaming down her face.

"If I could go back in time, I'd do it all over again. Tony. Robin. Ferncliffe. AJ. I'd endure all that hell and more...just to be with you. I wouldnt give up one minute we spent together."

"I can't do it, Carly. I can't turn around and wonder if you're gonna be there. Here…, at the warehouse, with no warning."

"Aren't you ever glad to see me?"

"Yes. But, then I have to let you go again. Until you show up the next time. Then, I have to let you go all over again. I can't…I can't do it."

"I won't let you go, Jason. I won't let you leave me. Or Michael. You see, we need you. So much. You're everything to both of us. And I refuse to believe that you'd just leave us like this. You wouldn't do that to us, Jase. I know you."

"Okay, look, this is my nightmare, okay? It's not that my plan won't work, it's that it will. And I'll finally be through with all this and Michael and I will come back and you won't be there waiting for us."

"I swear on my life, on my heart, on my soul, on my love for you that I will bring Michael home. We're going to come back to you Jase. And all you have to do is make it through this. Come back to me Jason. Come back so I can come home. So we can come home."

Carly laid her head on his chest and wept. Her hands were still holding his and she could feel the shallow rise and fall of his chest. The beating of his heart.

"I can't make it without you, Jase. Just come back to me...."

The winds of the heart can blow me down
But I get right up and I stand my ground
I've tasted fear, my share of pain
The wasted tears of love in vain
I've held you tight, pushed you away
Now with all my might I beg you to stay

I'm sure I could face the bitter cold
But life without you, I don't know

I know what I want, I know what I need
But there's just one thing I must believe
Deep in the night by a dying flame
You will be there when I call your name

I'm sure I could face the bitter cold
But life without you, I don't know

I don't know

"Carly....." His voice was barely a whisper. And it was the sweetest thing she had ever heard.
