 POSSESSION :: CHAPTER TWO
Sonny
opened the door to the Penthouse. He had hurried through dinner, excited about
coming home and making love to his wife. As soon as he shut the door behind him,
he almost jumped. Carly was laying asleep on the couch...wrapped in Jason's
arms. Jason was stretched out on his back with one hand behind his head and the
other one securely around Sonny's wife. Carly was curled up against him with one
leg thrown over him and one hand resting on his chest. Sonny tried to ignore the
anger that was building inside of him. He knew Carly loved him, but he also knew
that at one time she had loved Jason more than life itself. Come on, man.
This is Jason. He loves you. She loves you. Their best friends. Stop it.
Sonny turned towards the stairs, deciding not to wake them, and started
climbing. Once he reached the landing he turned around and cast one last look at
the couch; then went to bed
alone.
"Good
morning!"
Jason's head shot up when he heard the words. He instictively
went to reach for his gun but found a heavy weight on top of him. Carly. He
turned and saw Sonny standing over them with a smile on his face. Jason started
to panic a little but somehow managed to get off the couch without waking her
up.
"Sonny, I'm sorry." Jason held his hand out indicating Carly's
sleeping form.
Sonny smiled. "About what?" He then wrapped his arms
around Jason and gave him a fierce hug. "Glad you're back, man."
Jason
was a little confused at first wondering why Sonny wasnt angry that he had spent
the night on the couch with his wife. Jason knew beyond a doubt that there was a
time he would have ripped any man's arms off for touching her. But he decided to
let it go. "Thanks, it's good to be back."
"I know Carly really missed
you." Sonny nodded at his sleeping wife. "She always asks about
you."
Jason smiled. "I missed her too. And Michael." Jason cast a glance
upstairs. "Is he still sleeping?"
"No actually he's spending the week
with Bobbie, Roy, and Lucas. They went to Disney World and Bobbie refused to go
without him. Carly threw a fit but eventually she had to give in." Sonny
laughed.
Jason winced. He never realized how much it would hurt, hearing
another man speak to him about Carly and Michael with such personal knowledge.
He couldn't stop himself from thinking that he should be the one telling Sonny
about them and not vice versa. Jason quickly pushed those thoughts aside. "I'm
going to go take a shower."
Sonny clapped him on the shoulder. "Go
ahead. I'll get breakfast ready and we can all catch up together."
After
Jason went upstairs Sonny sat on the couch next to Carly. She was so beautiful
as she slept, so peaceful. He reached up and stroked her hair
softly.
"Jase..." she murmured sleepily.
Sonny's eyes went wide.
Jason? "No baby, it's me." His voice was soft.
She sat up and
rubbed her eyes. "Sonny, oh god. I had the best dream." She threw her arms
around his neck and buried her face in his shoulder.
Sonny ran his hand
over hair gently. "Then why do you look like someone just told you your puppy
died?" He laughed softly into her hair.
"Because it wasnt real. I dreamed
that Jason came home." She pulled back from his embrace and looked at him with
tears in her eyes. "Where is he, Sonny? Is he ever coming back?"
Sonny
smiled at her. "Why don't you ask him? He's upstairs." His hand was still
running gently through her hair.
"He is? It was real." She threw her arms
around him again. "I'm so glad he's back, Sonny."
"Should I be jealous?"
He laughed at her. "You so excited about seeing another man?"
Carly
laughed back. "Of course not. I love you. I just missed him alot." She said into
his shoulder.
Sonny smiled at her reassurance. "I did too, baby. I did
too."
When Carly got done with her shower, Jason and Sonny were
sitting at the dining table waiting for her. She smiled at the sight of them.
She walked over and gave Sonny a kiss on the lips. "Good morning, my
love."
Jason flinched at her display of affection. He always knew it
would hurt to see them together, he just wondered why it bothered him so much.
He was over her, wasn't he?
Carly mistook the look on his face. "Don't
worry you get one too." She leaned over and pecked him on the cheek firmly. He
turned his head as she kissed him and their eyes met. She was taken aback by how
much his closeness affected her. His smell, the salty taste of his skin.
Breathe, Carly, Breathe. She told herself as she took her seat at the
table. "So what are you two plotting about?"
"Oh nothing." Sonny answered
nonchalantly. "Jason was just mentioning that he needed to go to Jake's and get
a room since his Penthouse is rented out."
Carly's brow furrowed.
"Jake's?" Just the mention of the name stirred long buried memories in her. "How
dare you even think you're going to stay at Jake's!" She turned her gaze to
Sonny. "And how dare you go along with it!"
They both looked at her in
surprise. "Why not, Carly?" Jason questioned her.
"Because you're going
to stay here. With us." There was no request in her voice and she leaned back in
her chair and folded her arms.
Sonny spoke first. "Carly, Jason is a
grown man if he wants to stay at Jake's he's going to stay at
Jake's."
"No he's not." Carly said matter of factly. She leaned forward
and placed her hand over Jason's. "Stay here, with us. And
Michael."
Jason silently cursed the fact that he had never been able to
say no to her. She was so oblivious to the torture it would be for him to stay
there. To watch them together. To see them go into their bedroom every night. To
hear Michael playing downstairs. But he couldn't refuse her, he'd never figured
out how. "Okay."
Carly squealed with delight. "Good. Michael will love
having you here. And so will I." She squeezed his hand again. "You can have
Stone's room." She said with a wink.
Jason laughed, remembering saying
those words to her so long ago. Another lifetime ago. At least Michael's
lifetime. "Are you going to give me a key to the Penthouse?" He asked with a
smile.
Now it was Carly's turn to laugh. "A beautiful gold one with your
name engraved on it," she said happily. "But I know you'll never treasure it
half as much as I did."
Jason smiled back at her and squeexed her hand in
return. He was amazed at how quickly they could go to being so comfortable with
each other. Like no time had passed and nothing had changed. Like she was still
that desperate, pregant woman begging for his help. And he was still the only
thing she had in the world.
Sonny watched this exchange with jealousy. It
was if they had both forgotten he existed. He realized how much history they had
together. How many memories they shared that he would never be a part of. He
cleared his throat and they looked at him. "You sure that's something you want,
Jason?" He asked cautiously.
Jason smiled back at him. "If it's what
Carly wants, then it's what I want." He said simply, honestly.
Carly
grinned joyfully and then turned to Sonny. "Now you know why I missed this guy
so much."
Sonny nodded, but noticed that their hands were still joined on
the table.
