You stop what you're doing long enough to savor the aroma drifting out of the kitchen. Your tastebuds ready themselves and your mouth begins to water. It's the smell of fresh homemade bread and you can't wait to grab the butter, cut a slice and enjoy. Well, here are some recipes that will help fill this scenario and your appetite at the same time. BANANA NUT BREAD

1/3 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup mashed ripe bananas
2 eggs
1/3 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon water
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2/3 cup chopped nuts

Cream butter and shortening until fluffy. Blend in sugar. Combine bananas, eggs, buttermilk and water. Stir into shortening mixture. Sift flour and baking soda. Stir into banana mixture. Fold in nuts. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake 350 degrees for 55 minutes to 1 hour.

ZUCCHINI BREAD

2 cups oil
3 cups sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
6 eggs
4 cups zucchini (shredded or chopped)
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
6 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup nuts

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Grease and flour three loaf pans and divide mixture into them. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Makes three loaves.

HERBED FRENCH BREAD

5-6 cups flour
2 packages yeast
1 package (3/4 oz or 4 teaspoons) dry ranch style salad dressing mix
1 1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
1 tablespoon melted butter

In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, yeast and 3 teaspoons dry salad dressing mix. Mix well. Heat buttermilk, water and shortening until warm (120-130 degrees). Add to flour mixture. Add egg and blend until smooth (about 3 minutes on medium speed. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to make firm dough. Knead 5-10 minutes. Cover and let rise. Punch down and divide in two. Roll each into a 12x7 rectangle. Roll from longer side and pinch to seal. Put seam side down on greased cookie sheet. Make three or four diagonal slashes across top. Let rise. Bake at 350 for 25-30 min.
