In adaptive/wheelchair Track & Field, athletes are catagorized by functional ability and by age(those athletes 18 years old and under). This catagorization provides a more competitive environmment and "levels the playing field" for the wide range of physically-challenged athletes. Track & Field is available for both male and female athletes, from junior to masters divisions. The Track events include: 100m; 200m; 400m; 800m; 1500m; and 5000m races. While the field events include: Discus; Javelin; Shotput; and Club(for Quads only). Athletes may also compete in the "4 by" relay races. Individual results, finishes, or places are awarded points that are tallied for the overall team score for each meet. Sun Wheeler Athletes travel and compete in the Mid-Atlantic Wheelchair Games and the Maryland Wheelchair Games. Upon qualification at a regional meet, individual athletes may travel to the national meet that is held in the month of July in a differenet city every year. In the off season, athletes participate locally in Tidewater Strider sanctioned roadraces, both 5K, 8K, and 10K.
