Welcome to Sun Crest Belgians ~ Hope you enjoy your stay!

Belgian d'Anvers

I have been raising d'Anvers for about 4 years now. I started with a black pair from Jerry Yates, then I bought a trio of quail from Greg Romer... The rest is history, I bought a few more birds from Jerry and Greg, then a few eggs from Kristen Ramsdell and Kathy Leininger. Now I am knee deep in Quail, Black, Blue, Splash, Blue Quail, White, Cuckoo, Mille fleur, Barred Blue Quail, and others. I hope to keep up with pictures, but there is always something hatching, growing, changing, competing and winning; so I can only try my best to keep the camera battery charged!

As much as I hated to do it I removed most of the pictures of the birds that are nolonger with me. I'll miss seeing them here, but their lines live on, and it's time I updated this.

Blue, Black, Splash

Ebony has since passed but I do have a few chicks from her, which is why her picture remains as a referance.

This is the splash pullet I kept out of the 2 I got from Greg. She is a little long, but overall I like her. She is in a breeding pen with a Blue cockerel.

One of the blue cockerels I rotate in the breeding pen, his comb is sort of funky, but I like him.

This cockerel I love, he is tiny, typey, short, cobby, bull necked and has a great temperment. Now he just needs a name! I recieved eggs from Kristen Ramsdell, and he is one of the beautiful birds that hatched. This cockerel is in a breeding pen with a black hen from Lysander and Ebony, the splash and blue from Greg Romer, and soon to be another splash from this spring's hatch. Since this guy is sooo relaxed, he hasn't proved to be the best breeder. So he will soon be joined in the breeding pen by Onyx. Pictures of Onyx will be coming soon, but he is still a wee little bird, so you're gonna have to look real hard for the potential I keep swear I'm seeing. Short legs, back and neck are a goooood start!

These hens are from Lysander and Ebony. The hen in the center of the picture won RV at the 2005 Buckeye Fancy Feather club show in Canfield. She is in a breeding pen with the above Blue.

I have a lot of blank image tags, I know. Sorry about that, but new pics are on their way!

Now for my Quail d'Anvers

Here is Zazoo, one of my first Quail d'Anvers, (purchased from Greg Romer) He has since passed but I am hatching out 5th generation chicks from him and his line is still going strong.

Behold. . . THOR! Compact, and typey, this guy is. He won Best of Breed out of 26 at the 2004 Buckeye Fancy Feather Club Show in Canfield Ohio. He was the 1st place cock bird at the 2004 Ohio National out of about 6; and the 1st place cock bird at the 2005 Buckeye Fancy Feather Club Show out of 7. I purchased him from Jerry Yates.

The issue with Thor is, he is a lazy bird, and I've only ever managed to hatch one egg that he fertilized, but I think it may be one of the best eggs I've ever hatched. So here he is, Thor's Son (yet to be named, I'm working on it!)

2 quail hens I bought from Greg Romer. The one in front took 3rd place out of 13 hens at the 2006 Buckeye Fancy Feather Club show in Canfield, OH. I wish she wouldn't have had a broken tail feather, she possibly could have taken 2nd, though (I'll admit) 1st was out of her reach and rightly earned by a beautiful old hen.

Sorry this pic is fuzzy, but you get the idea =)

So creatively named by one of my little cousins- this is "Quail". HE is one of Zazoo's sons.

More quail pics coming soon

Mille Fleur

I ended up selling my old milles and obtained some new ones. I'll have to get pictures up. Out of the 20 or so eggs I hatched from my original trio, I did get one nice pullet, who is paired with an amazing little mille cock.

Lavender Quail

This was sort of accidental. My friend Kristen Ramsdell had to sell off her birds, and I ended up with this guy. I wasn't sure what to do with him, and being that I really didn't have any spare quail hens (which was what she had recommended) I put him with my last remaining silver quail hen. Well, sure enough I hatched out a few silver quails and a few lavender quails. Since I don't have as many varieties as I used to I figured it wouldn't hurt to work with these a bit and try to get some eggs to other breeders so Kristen's work isn't lost.

Cuckoo

Another variety that kind of accidentally happened... John Glowa and I exchanged eggs, and although I mainly wanted silver quail eggs, I couldn't turn down his offer of cuckoo eggs too. The post office unfortunately destroyed many of the eggs, but I still ended up with 3 cuckoo chicks. I'll have to get some pictures of them once they are a bit older and showing some type.
