(mono-prints)
These are details of a series of mono-prints which
are meant to be a visual expression of the power, beauty, energy and individuality
of the great cetaceans of the sea. I was fascinated by whales and dolphins
for a long time and experimented in a variety of ways to express my own emotional
interpretation of these incredible animals.
(Note: a mono-print is an image composed on an acetate sheet and then impressed
onto a single sheet of paper.)
Whales - mother and child
(mono-print) |
(oil on board) |
The bond between any mother and child is strong,
but with the humpback whales, it seems to carry an even deeper spiritual quality.
The mono-print attempts to capture the fragility of their world, while the
painting uses a far more 'realistic' approach, aiming to depict the way most
of us usually see these animals.
These are a series of mono-prints which attempt
to capture the joy and expression in a whale's life.
(oil on canvas)
How many colours are there in the oceans we cannot
possibly be aware of? How can we ever imagine what it is like to be another
creature, to live its life, to think its thoughts, to share its feelings.
Everything is conjecture, hypothesis, and our own individual interpretation.
Sperm Whale depths
(Silk screen print)
The majestic beauty and power of the sperm whale
at one with its environment.
