Oyster Shells


Common Name: Carbonate of Lime, Calcium Carbonate

Preparation of Medicine: Prepared from middle layer of Oyster Shell

Introduction.-- One of commonly employed constitutional remedies. It is commonly indicated for diseases due to defective assimilation, and imperfect ossification of skeletal tissue. Irregular growth of bones, especially long bones. Curvature of long bones.

Constitution.-- Psoric constitution. Leucophlegmatic temperament.Yellowish or yellowish-brown hair, fair complexion, blue eyes. Pale , weak and timid. Tendency to obesity.Defective and irregular growth of bones. Curvatures of the long bones.
Plethoric and fleshy girls, who grow rapidly.

Generalities.-- Sour discharges: Sweat; vomitus; eructations. Sour odor of whole body. Longing for fresh air. Coldness in general or of single parts like head, stomach, abdomen and feet. Great tendency to take cold. Sensitive to cold damp weather. Aversion to cold open air.

Causation.-- Disease conditions due to imperfect assimilation and defective ossification of bony tissue. Diseases brought about by standing or working long time in cold and damp areas. Standing in cold water.

Mind.-- Fear especially in ladies, of loss of reason. Thinks that people will notice her state of mental confusion.

Head.-- Profuse sweating of head, especially back of head and neck. So profuse that it wets the pillow all around during sleep.

Mouth.--Delayed dentition.

Stomach.-- Great desire for eggs during illness and recovery. Craving for indigestible things. Aversion to meat. Sour eructations. Sour vomiting. Pit of stomach swollen, described as inverted saucer. Painful on touch.

Stool.--Constipation: Stool has to be evacuated mechanically. Feels better when constipated.

Female.-- Too early, too profuse and long lasting menses. Amenorrhoea may follow. Chlorosis with supressed or scanty menses. Feet cold and damp during menses. Menstrual flow is brought about by least mental excitement.

Extremeties.-- Deformed extremities. Gets easily tired on walking. Coldness of feet and legs. Profuse perspiration of feet, as a result become raw. Blisters over soles. Sweat very offensive.

Respiratory.-- Lung diseases in tall slender and fast growing persons. Affection of upper third of right lung. Hoarseness worse in the morning with absence of pain.

Perspiration.-- Sweat of single parts: head; nape of neck; chest; axillae; sexual organs; hands; knees; feet.

Children.-- Children catch cold easily. Face red, muscles flabby, head and abdomen large, fontanells opened. Head sweats profusely wetting the pillow. Difficulty in learning to walk or stand. Child will not try to walk. Delayed dentition.

Aggravation.-- Cold air; wet weather; cold water; from washing; morning; during full moon.

Amelioration.-- Dry weather; lying on painful side.

Relationship.-- Hahnemann says that Calcarea Carb. must not be given before Nit. Acid. and Sulp. as it causes complications to patient.
It can be often repeated in children, but not in aged patients.
Complementary: to Bell., which is the acute of Calcarea.
Acts good: Before Lyc., Nux., Phos., Sil.,
Follows after: Nit. ac., Puls., Sulp.,
Is followed by: Kali bi. in nasal catarrh.
