Episode # 5
Twists and Turns

New chapter. Obviously. Happiness for Jude and Annie, distress for Livie.

Annie and Jude are in Tyus' office, in the middle of the ultra sound.

TYUS: Annie, don't take this the wrong way, but if someone had told me I'd be doing this a month ago, I wouldn't have believed them.

ANNIE: I don't think any one would have.

JUDE: But for the time being, we'd like the doctor/patient confidentiality.

TYUS: Say no more. Hold on a second...

He has noticed something on the screen.

JUDE: What is it? Is something wrong?

TYUS: Jude a second.

ANNIE: Tyus?

TYUS: Um, there's something there. Something extra.

JUDE: What is it?

ANNIE: Is it something...bad?

TYUS: That depends on how you look at it.

ANNIE: Tyus, spit it out or the old Annie's going to emerge and strangle it out of you. What is the extra thing in my stomach?!

TYUS: Um, it's another baby. You're having twins.

JUDE: Twins? As in two babies, rather than the one?

ANNIE: Tyus, are you sure?

TYUS: Yes, I am. I can tell you aren't prepared for this.

ANNIE: That's an understatement.

JUDE: You can say that again.

TYUS: Are you two okay?

ANNE and JUDE: Yes.

ANNIE: This is a good thing.

JUDE: Yeah. It'll be exciting.

TYUS: Um, let me just check a few more things and you two can go.

JUDE: Thank you.

Tyus checks Annie and the babies out more.

Outside the Shockwave, at the back, Evelyn is standing. She takes a drink from the flask and has a dashund with her. Sara comes outside and clears a table.

EVELYN: Excuse me, do you know if Emily David, or David Richards, or Leo Deschanel, or even Sean Richards is inside?

SARA: Actually they all are. Do you want me to get them for you?

EVELYN: Would you mind?

SARA: Not at all.

A few minutes later all four come out.

DAVID: How did it go?

EVELYN: I think really well. I won't know for a while.

EMILY: How did what go?

EVELYN: It's s secret, don't ask.

LEO: Can I ask what's up with the dog?

Bette and AJ come up from behind.

BETTE: I'd like to know that too.

EVELYN: I was walking around town, saw him in the window, and bought him. Can I keep him? He's great.

AJ: I don't think it's really a good idea.

EVELYN: He's already attached to me. Aren't you, Humphrey Bogart?

LEO: You named it Humphrey Bogart?

SEAN: Why?

EVELYN: I thought it sounded neat.

BETTE: Um, we'll see how he works out. Just make sure you potty train him.

AJ: Yes, um, don't forget dinner tonight.

Olivia walks up to them.

OLIVIA: Sean, David, I've been wondering where you've been.

DAVID: Hi, Mom.

OLIVIA: Bette, AJ, Emily, Leo, Evelyn, it's like a small family reunion.

AJ: Minus three.

Annie too comes up.

ANNIE: Minus three what?

BETTE: Livie was just saying how right now this like a little family reunion and AJ was saying that we're missing three members. But now we're only missing two. What are you doing here, Poopsie?

ANNIE: Jude and I just came from the doc-, well, we had an appointment and we just bought a house.

EVELYN: A house?

AJ: Well, it seems Annie has most definately changed for the better.

OLIVIA: You can say that again. I'm happy for you, Annie. I know everyone here is probably shocked to hear it, but I am. I really must be going though, I have to meet Caitlin here.

Another persons joins them, yep, it's Caitlin. Don't worry. It'll soon be left with only a few people there.

ANNIE: Hi, Caitlin.

Caitlin ignores her.

ANNIE: I understand. I'm sorry.

CAITLIN: I know you, Annie. You'll never be sorry for anything in your life. Everything you've ever done to me, my family, you don't regret it and if you could go back, you wouldn't change a thing. Except maybe not sign that prenuptial agreement. You're really good at making me realize how naive I can be. I thought you changed, but you never will. You'll always to the same vengeful slut that you've always been.

OLIVIA: Cait?

ANNIE: Believe what you want, Caitlin, I never have cared about that. But before you give me the third degree, you'd better remember what you did last night. It was the exact same thing. I'm perfectly willing to forgive you for it, to try and be a better person. You're wrong, I have changed. My priorities have changed, my goals. And they are no longer to ruin your family and make your lives hell. I'm sorry if you can't accept that, but it's the truth.

CAITLIN: I'm not going to listen to you lie in my face and in front of your family. Can we go somewhere else, Mom?

OLIVIA: Of course, Cait, whatever you say, darling.

They leave.

AJ: Um, Bette, I hate to go, but I have some work to do.

BETTE I'll miss you.

AJ: I love you, Bette.

BETTE: Oh, honey, I love you too.

AJ leaves.

EVELYN: That's just too weird. First my parents have me as the result of an affair, then eighteen years later I find them necking on the couch.

LEO: Hey, sis, you and Humphrey Bogart up for a walk on the beach?

EVELYN: Why not. You guys?

EMILY, DAVID, and SEAN: Sure.

They leave.

BETTE: So, Poopsie, you want to tell me what that was about?

ANNIE: Not really.

BETTE: Come on, tell your old, er, young Aunt Bette. Did you and Caitlin have a fight?

ANNIE: In a way. Even though there was the prenuptial agreement, I'm asking Gregory for five million dollars. Jude has a dangerous job and if something happens to him, I want security. Well, I am handling the case myself, I can't afford a lawyer and Jude got upset. He thought that I thought he could support us and we yelled at each other, it wasn't pretty. I ended up at the beach and ran into Cole, who'd had a fight with Caitlin. We reached the grotto and were very close to sleeping with each other. But I stopped, I couldn't do it, because I kept thinking about Jude, that it was him I was with. He went looking for me at the Richards house and the same thing happened with he and Caitlin. Obviously she and Cole have spoken about it and she's gone back to hating me. Aunt Bette, I know I've done a lot of bad things in my life, but please, don't think that I meant for this to happen. I never want to hurt Jude.

Before Bette can answer, Maria comes up to Annie.

MARIA: Well, it's time for lunch, Annie! Is something wrong?

ANNIE: I just had a big night last night. Um, do you mind if Aunt Bette joins us?

MARIA: Of course not. I love having Bette around!

BETTE: Oh, thanks. This is great to have Poopsie and Bonita here together again. I'll tell you what, I didn't know if Poopsie here was going to be okay after we thought you died. Oh, I was worried about her. I don't think I'd ever seen her so devastated.

MARIA: I missed her a lot. But, being her best friend, I want to know what this big night was.

They sit down and Annie tells Maria about the previous night.

MARIA: You didn't mean it though, Annie. I know you better that anyone, except Bette. I know when yuo're sincere, and when you're lying. You love Jude and I can tell you love him dearly.

ANNIE: He's the first man to ever make me feel wanted.

BETTE: He's a good man, Poopsie, and not to mention very handsome. Listen, be the better person. Don't let Beauty get to you. And, I'm sorry to say, but Olivia has probably heard about this and your truce is most likely done for. Be the bigger, better person. That's the advice I leave you as I am forced to go inform this little town of it's habitants goings on.

ANNIE: Do you have to?

BETTE: Yeah, bye-bye.

ANNIE: I love you, Aunt Bette.

BETTE: Honey, I've loved you through everything you've done and I still do. This is good though. You have a new house and Poopsie and Bonita are back again.

Bette leaves.

MARIA: What's this about a house?

ANNIE: Jude and I bought a house together this morning.

MARIA: Settling down?

ANNIE: I love him, Maria. I've never been this happy before. For the first time, everything feels right. I'm in a good relationship, he's wonderful and caring. He loves me. My family and I are closer than ever and I want that to stay the same. I'm starting my own family.

MARIA What?

ANNIE: What do you mean what?

MARIA: You said you're starting your own family.

ANNIE: I did?

MARIA: You did.

ANNIE: I didn't mean to.

MARIA: Annie, what's going on? Come on, I was always the person you could tell everything to. You may have Jude now, but let me go back to that again.

ANNIE: ...Okay, but only because if I don't tell someone, I'm going to burst.

MARIA: Spit it out.

ANNIE: You're going to be a godmother.

MARIA: What?

ANNIE: I am three months pregnant with twins.

MARIA: Oh, my God. Annie, are you serious?

ANNIE: Hard to believe? That's what I said when I found out I was only having one. Then this morning we find out we're having two of them. Out of every woman we know in Sunset Beach which to see being the least likely to have a child? Me, I know.

MARIA: I'm happy for you, Annie. And I am so excited I get to be a godmother.

Maria smiles, a little unsure of this.

ANNIE: What's wrong, Maria.

MARIA: I have one problem with this little thing?

ANNIE: What is it? Maria, you're opinion means a lot to me. What is it?

MARIA: You've know Jude, what four months now?

ANNIE: Yeah.

MARIA: You were both at the wedding, but you bolted out of there and I'm pretty sure I know what you were doing.

ANNIE: You think we're moving to fast? Maria, what is it?

MARIA: Why haven't I met him yet?

ANNIE: That's it? Because you had me really scared for a minute.

MARIA: That's what bothers me.

ANNIE: You can meet him when he comes to pick me up in about five minutes.

MARIA: Are you going to get married?

ANNIE: We haven't talked about it. I would like to, but I have to get divorced first. Will you be there in court for me, for moral support?

MARIA: Let me know the time and the place.

Jude walks in and kisses Annie before she sees him. Knowing it's him, she returns the kiss.

JUDE: I missed you.

ANNIE: I missed you too. You have to meet Maria, my best friend.

MARIA: So, you're Jude.

JUDE: Afraid so.

MARIA: Don't be. I've never seen Annie so happy and I know that's because of you.

ANNIE: I'm going to go to the bathroom before we go.

JUDE: Okay, is it...

ANNIE: No, no. And, I told Maria. I had to tell someone, I couldn't hold it in any longer. She won't tell anyone else, don't worry.

JUDE: Annie, calm down. It's okay. Remember, you're the one who thinks it's good idea to keep this a secret for your case. Personally, I'd like to shout it at the top of my lungs, but I'm going along with this.

ANNIE: Okay.

Annie heads off to the bathroom. Jude sits in her chair across from Maria.

MARIA: She's very happy. So, thank you for that. She deserves it.

JUDE: All I want is to be with her and make her happy.

MARIA: You're doing a fabulous job. But if you hurt her--

JUDE: Got it, you'll break every one of my limbs before killing me.

MARIA: Exactly. Do, you mind if I ask you something?

JUDE: Go ahead.

MARIA: Do you think you and Annie will get married?

JUDE: I'd like to. But we have never spoken about it. I guess we have to wait until she's divorced from Gregory. But I think that's where we're headed. We bought a house today.

MARIA: That's what Annie said. When are you going to move in?

JUDE: In three days.

MARIA: Benjy and I will be there to help you out.

JUDE: That's right, Annie said you have a son. Well, your nephew almost. I think it's great you and Ben are raising him. He'll turn out well. I've heard of the thins Derek had done. Plus, I hope this comment doesn't upset you, but Meg is going to make a good stepmom.

MARIA: It's okay. I couldn't have chosen anyone better for Ben.

JUDE: It's nice you can see it that way.

MARIA: I'm just being supportive. Which is exactly what I intend to do when Annie has to go to court. She just has to let me know when.

JUDE: Actually, I checked our messages a little bit ago and we got a call saying that the proceedings start in early February.

Annie comes back.

ANNIE: They called?

JUDE: Yeah, about an hour ago. It's, I think February ninth. I'm pretty sure that's the exact date. At ten o'clock in the morning.

ANNIE: I'm feeling a little tired and we have to be at Aunt Bette's in about two hours.

MARIA: You'd better get going then. Let me know when you decide to tell people about your children. That way I can throw you and baby shower.

Annie and Maria stand and hug.

MARIA: [Whispering.] I like him.

ANNIE: [Also whispering.] I'm glad. I love you, Maria.

MARIA: I love you too. Take care of my godchildren.

JUDE: Of course we will. Bye, Maria. It was nice meeting you.

MARIA: You too, Jude.

They leave.

At the rectory Ben and Michael are sitting in Antonio's office. Antonio enters with a young man, probably about seventeen.

ANTONIO: Lou, this is Ben Evans and Michael Bourne. They are two of the people responsible for the Mark Wolper foundation. They want to talk to you.

LOU: Hello, Mr. Evans, Mr. Bourne.

MICHAEL: Call me Michael.

BEN: And call me Ben. Lou, what do you want to do with your life? Do you have any idea?

LOU: Industrial engineering.

ANTONIO: Lou is at the top of his class. He'll probably be valedictorian.

MICHAEL: That's great, man. You want to go to college?

LOU: Yes, but my family can't afford. I've applied for a few scholarship and grants, but they aren't enough.

BEN: Do you mind if we ask how much you're lacking for the schooling you would need for industrial engineering?

LOU: I have three quarters of the money.

MICHAEL: What about school, where do you want to go?

ANTONIO: Um, Lou has been accepted to MIT.

MICHAEL: That's fantastic. Um, Antonio, Lou, do you think you could excuse us for a moment?

LOU: Sure.

Lou and Antonio leave the room.

BEN: He's perfect. Driven, ambitious, smart.

MICHAEL: I agree. Let's hope he likes wearing tuxedos for the ball.

Michael gets Lou and Antonio.

MICHAEL: Lou, we have decided that we would like you to be the first recipient of the Mark Wolper Memorial Scholarship.

BEN: This will cover all of the expenses your scholarships and grants do not provide you with. Congratulations.

ANTONIO: This is wonderful news. Thank you, Ben, Michael.

MICHAEL: Actually, you have G-, Casey, Sara, Meg,Nick, and Vanessa to thank as well. We were all a part of it.

LOU: Thank you, very much.

MICHAEL: I hope you don't mind wearing a tux, buddy. The ceremony where we will present this to you is a black tie event. It's in about three weeks. We'll call you with the exact date. Maybe Father Antonio will help you pick out something to wear.

LOU: He's great.

MICHAEL: I know, he married me and my wife.

ANTONIO: Of course. And, Lou, as soon as they let you know the date, we'll go get you something to wear.

BEN: We hope you'll come, Antonio. You're invitation has already been made out.

ANTONIO: I'll see if I can make it.

They all shake hands, the little meeting ends.

Casey and Sara are sitting in Surf Central together on the sofa.

SARA: Quiet, quiet.

CASEY: What?

SARA: Do you hear it?

CASEY: Hear what?

SARA: Absolute silence. Gabi's at a lawyers, you're mom is out running errands, and Nick is looking around town. No visitors either.

CASEY: It's nice.

SARA: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

CASEY: I'll get the peanut butter and chocolate syrup.

SARA: I'll be waiting upstairs. Hurry.

She kisses him and gives a seductive little smile before she goes upstairs and he heads to the kitchen. A few minutes later they're kissing in bed.

CASEY: I missed this.

SARA: You won't have to ever again.

CASEY: That's right.

SARA: Speaking of which we need to start planning our wedding.

CASEY: Later....

SARA: I know, I know. But, first, what do you think of May eleventh?

CASEY: For a wedding date? Sounds good to me. Know what else sounds good?

SARA: What?

CASEY: Peanut butter and chocolate syrup.

SARA: Well, well. We'd better satisfy that craving.

They make love.

At Grenadine's, Olivia and Caitlin are having lunch and Caitlin has just told Olivia about Annie and Cole.

OLIVIA: That good for nothing harlot. I knew she couldn't stay with just one man.

Caitlin nods her head and agrees. They continue their lunch.

Evelyn is walking on the beach. David comes up to her. She's drunk out of her mind.

EVELYN: David! My bud! Isn't it a beautiful day?

DAVID: Um, yeah. Are you drunk? You are, aren't you?

EVELYN: Just a little bit to drink, that's all I had.

DAVID: You did it quickly. I just left you guys about an hour and a half ago.

EVELYN: Time flies.

DAVID: Don't you have to have dinner with your family?

EVELYN: I thought you were coming to that anyway? I'm not. I decided I'd much rather like to spend time with a friend of mine. His name is Jack. Jack Daniels. Would you like to join me, David? David, that's a funny name.

DAVID: What's funny about it?

EVELYN: It's so, so, so, so proper. Doesn't anyone ever call you Dave, or Davey, or, or Id? That's it, from now on, you're name is Id. I don't what your mom was thinking naming you David instead of Id. She must have been drunk at the time.

David tries to grab onto Evelyn's arm.

EVELYN: Now, now, Id. No, no. I'm going to go spend some time with my friend. I'll see you later, Id.

He nods his head as she walks off singing badly and loudly.

Also walking on the beach in one direction is Nick, in the other is Francesca. They collide.

NICK: I'm sorry.

FRANCESCA: No, it's my fault. I should have been paying attention.

NICK: Well, why don't we just agree we both should pay more attention. I guess these sunsets can get a little distracting. I just figured that being in Sunset Beach I should watch a sunset.

FRANCESCA: You're new in town?

NICK: Yeah, yeah. My family lives here. I just got back and decided to plant my roots where I know people. I'm Nick Cummings, by the way.

FRANCESCA: As in the Shock Wave Cummingses?

NICK: The very ones. Can I ask you a question?

FRANCESCA: Sure, go ahead.

NICK: What is your name?

FRANCESCA: Francesca Vargas. I know your family, not well, but we've met before. They're good people.

NICK: That they are. Have you lived in Sunset Beach long?

FRANCESCA: Um, actually I lived here for about seven or eight months. But then I had to go away while everyone thought I was dead. I messed up a lot of people's lives and they wanted me dead. One of them almost got their wish when he shot me.

NICK: Um, okay. Could you explain that to me please? Over dinner, right about now?

FRANCESCA: Are you asking me out on a date?

NICK: Assuming you're available, yes, I am.

FRANCESCA: Lucky for you I'm a widow.

NICK: I'm sorry.

FRANCESCA: Don't be. It wasn't a happy marriage. So, are you taking me to dinner, or what?

NICK: Let's go, Ms. Vargas.

They walk off talking to one another.

In the Sunset Beach police department jail Gregory sits. Alex visits him.

ALEX: Hello, Gregory.

GREGORY: Alex, I didn't know you were in Sunset Beach.

ALEX: I haven't been here long. I came to be with my family.

GREGORY: Casey.

ALEX: And his fiancee.

GREGORY: Casey is getting married?

ALEX: Yes, to Sara Cummings.

GREGORY: Meg's little sister.

ALEX: She's a lovely woman, Sara.

GREGORY: Does Casey know?

ALEX: No, I came to tell him that too. But I have found out what you've done and I don't think I will. There's a meeting of Liberty Corporation stock holders tomorrow. It'll be Ben Evans, AJ Deschanel, Olivia, and myself. It won't be the same without you.

GREGORY: It's my company. Someday I'll get it back.

ALEX: You realize what you've done, right? I don't think you'll be out of here for a long, long time.

GREGORY: The woman I supposedly killed is alive. They may reduce my sentence.

ALEX: Gregory, you fled and tried to kill Annie. They were investigating you a long time before that. It'll be quite a while before they let you out. What are those papers on your bed? They look important.

GREGORY: Annie is divorcing me and suing me for five million dollars.

ALEX: With all of your money, that seems fair.

GREGORY: She won't get a penny. We go to court about it in February. The ninth to be exact.

ALEX: Well, I hope it goes well. For Annie.

GREGORY: Good-bye, Alex.

ALEX: Do you even care about you children, Gregory? If you did I don't think you could do this to any of them. I am perfectly aware of your feelings towards Sean and David. They aren't all you hoped. But what about the others? I know you see Trey as your own. You love him as your own and you always will. What have you done to them?

GREGORY: Everything I had to.

ALEX: No, you didn't. Good-bye, Gregory.
