Episode #9:
Happy Valentine's Day

Okay, time for a wedding.

Maria is on the phone with Antonio. She and Annie are the only ones in the room at Annie and Jude's house.

MARIA: Okay, great. Bye Antonio, I'll see you later. Annie, everything is set, you have nothing to be nervous about.

ANNIE: I know, I know.

MARIA: You're getting married, Annie. And this time I get to see it.

ANNIE: I wouldn't have it any other way.

MARIA: When are you going to tell people that you're pregnant?

ANNIE: Well, you and Evelyn know. I think after the wedding we'll let people know.

MARIA: I don't think I have ever seen people plan a wedding so quickly. And a good one. You're going look beautiful in that dress.

They hug.

ANNIE: We just need to get me to the church, so that I can put the dress on.

Okay, the dress is white (I know...) with a very simple white top to it with no lace or sequence and the skirt to it is a little full so as to not see her growing stomache.

They get ready to leave. At the St. Joseph's Evelyn and David, dressed in wedding garb, are standing outside the chapel doors.

DAVID: How are you? We haven't had much time to talk since the other night and you've been sober for about three dyas.

EVELYN: It feels good to have my mind back. And my family seems to have forgiven me. I went to two AA meetings and I think they're going to work out. I see the shrink tomorrow though. Would you come with me? To wait for me there and all that?

DAVID: Of course. Um, I have wanted to ask you each time I saw you sober if you'd like to, I don't know, have dinner with me. And since it's Valentine's day I was thinking tonight after the wedding.

EVELYN: Are you asking me out on a date?

DAVID: Yes.

EVELYN: Tonight after the wedding?

DAVID: Yes.

EVELYN: I'd love to.

She kisses him on the cheek.

In Jude's dressing room at the church he's waiting and pacing. Leo, AJ, and Bette are standing by watching, quite amused.

JUDE: Where is she?

BETTE: LIsten, handsome, I know Annie and I know Maria, they will get here. Between the two of them anything can happen.

JUDE: Okay, okay. Could you, Bette...

BETTE: Yeah, yeah, I'll go check to see if she's here yet.

She leaves the room. In the allway she runs into Emily, Evenlyn, Sean, and David.

BETTE: Oh, don't you all look great.

EVELYN: So do you, mom.

BETTE: Is the bride here yet?

Annie and Maria run through and stop when they see the group.

BETTE: You're groom is incredibelt nervous. But now that you're here everything is fine. I'll go tell him.

ANNIE: Okay. Maria.

MARIA: Yeah, let's go get you dressed.

EVELYN: I'll come too.

Bette goes off in one direction and Annie, Maria, and Evelyn in another.

EMILY: They seem a little overwhlemed.

DAVID: You can say that again.

Jude, AJ, Bette, and Leo go into the hallway with them.

SEAN: Wow, you guys look ready.

LEO: Let's just hope Annie can be ready in five minutes.

Antonio walks out of his offive followed by Ben, Meg, Casey, and Sara.

SARA: May 11th, right, Antonio.

ANTONIO: At two o'clock.

JUDE: Sara, there you are. I've been trying to call you.

SARA: Why?

JUDE: I'm getting married. You were my first friend in town, so I wanted you here.

CASEY: When are you getting married?

ANTONIO: In three minutes. Are Annie and Maria here?

BETTE: They're just finishing getting Annie dressed, Padre.

JUDE: You'll all stay, won't you? All four of you?

BEN: Um, sure.

MEG: Yeah.

SARA: I wouldn't miss this for the world.

CASEY: Happy to.

AJ: Wonderful.

Maria comes out.

MARIA: She's ready.

ANTONIO: Let's get started. Jude?

JUDE: Yeah.

Antonio, Jude, AJ, David, and Leo stand at the altar as Maria, Evelyn, then Emily walk up the aisle. The wedding march begins and Annie and Bette begin to walk. Annie and Jude smile at each other. Annie reaches the front and Bette stands a few steps behind her.

ANTONIO: Who gives this woman away?

BETTE: I do.

ANTONIO: Good, good, let's begin. You both know that since neither you of you is Catholic and Annie, you have been married before this is not affiliated with any church. It's the government knowing that you are a married couple. We are al gathered here today, family and friends, to witness these to be married...

Antonio's voice fades as "Fumblin Towards Ecstasy"* by Sarah McLachlan begins. As the song plays they go through the entire ceremony. They say their vows, which we can say they mean with all their hearts. Antonio says a few things, then they kiss.

At the club they have their reception. It's time for the first dance. Jude and Annie are out on the dance floor abou to begin.

JUDE: Do you remember the first time we danced?

ANNIE: In the park when Michael proposed to Vanessa.

JUDE: Do you remember what songs were played?

ANNIE: Um, "The Way You Look Tonight" and "Al the Way".

JUDE: Very good.

The first of those songs starts playing, after that the other song. Sitting a a large round table is every guest that was there, except Ben and Meg, who had to go. Oh, and Ross is there with Maria.

AJ: It was a wonderful wedding.

EVELYN: I agree.

ANNIE: Yeah, but I'm beat now.

JUDE: Are you okay?

ANNIE: Yeah, you know.

EVELYN: Maybe you should call it a day. You should be careful.

MARIA: She's right, Annie.

BETTE: Okay, you have been secretive long enough. Poopsie, is there a bun in the oven?

ANNIE: There are two buns in the oven, Aunt Bette.

EMILY: You're pregnant?

LEO: With twins?

JUDE: Yes.

SEAN: How far along are you?

ANNIE: Three months.

DAVID: I wonder how dad's lawyer knew that.

BETTE: Congratulations.

They all congratulate and Jude and Annie head home.

David and Evelyn are walking on the beach.

EVELYN: After getting drunk for a year and a half nonstop it's taking some time getting used to things being so clear.

DAVID: Well, now that your are sober, H. G. Tartikoff can get back to work.

EVELYN: You remember that?

DAVID: I remember everything you tell me.

EVELYN: You're something else, you know that? You're my best friend too.

DAVID: Well, that makes sense, you're mine too.

It's sunset and they've reached the pier.

EVELYN: It's a beautiful night.

DAVID: Yeah. Perfect sunset.

EVELYN: I feel like a swim.

She takes off her clothes (her bathing suit is underneath) and dives in.

DAVID: Evelyn!

He takes off his shirt, shoes, and socks and goes in after her.

On the beach Emily, Michael, and Casey are at the life guard stand. Casey and Michael came to get something while Emily was on shift.

CASEY: Did two people just fall off of the pier?

MICHAEL: I think so.

EMILY: That looks like my sister.

Back to Evelyn and David in the water.

DAVID: Are you crazy?

EVELYN: Yes! It's invigorating.

DAVID: It is kind of fun.

The laugh and swim closer together.

EVELYN: It's a nice first date.

DAVID: It's a fabulous first date.

They kiss, very passionately, almost as if they need it. It's a long, drawn out kiss.

DAVID: That was much better than our first kiss.

EVELYN: We've kissed before?

DAVID: You kissed me when you were drunk.

EVELYN: Did you stop it?

DAVID: Yes. It wasn't right at the time. This was though. This, this was...

EVELYN: Wow.

DAVID: Yeah, that covers it.

EVELYN: It's getting chilly.

DAVID: Yeah, let's get warmed up.

EVELYN: Busy tomorrow night?

DAVID: No, I have a date with this girl I know.

EVELYN: Really? And this girl, she doesn't happen to stand about five foot three, dark hair, brown eyes, novelist, perhaps?

DAVID: You know her?

EVELYN: Very well.

They step out of the water and are approached by Emily, Casey, and Michael.

EMILY: Evelyn, David, did you fal, or jump.

EVELYN: I jumped.

DAVID: I jumped in after her.

EMILY: You guys do everything that could get you in trouble together.

EVELYN: Sorry, mother.

CASEY: Just don't do it again. David, you're father fell off that thing and was gone for six months.

DAVID: That's because my father's a liar and insane.

MICHAEL: It's dangerous though.

DAVID: Won't happen again.

EVELYN: Promise.

CASEY: Okay.

Casey and Michael walk off. Brad walks up.

BRAD: Did I miss something?

EVELYN: Who are you?

EMILY: This is Brad Niclaus. Brad this is my sister, Evelyn.

BRAD: Hi.

EVELYN: I think I remember hearing about you.

DAVID: We'd better get you warmed up before you get sick.

EVELYN: Bye, Emily. Nice to meet you, Brad.

David and Evelyn go towards the pier to get their clothes.

BRAD: Emily, what are we? To each other I mean? Because I still would like to consider you a friend. I have no right to ask that, but it is still somehting I would like.

EMILY: We're friends, Brad. You're forgiven. Just don't lie to me again. I hate it.

BRAD: Then there is something you should know.

EMILY: What?

BRAD: Amy has not given up on Sean. She still wants him and she's saying she'll do anything to get him again.

EMILY: She's serious?

BRAD: Yeah. I just thought you should know.

EMILY: Thanks, Brad.

BRAD: You're welcome.

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy:
All the fear has left me now
I'm not frightened anymore
It's my heart that pounds beneath my flesh
it's my mouth that pushes out this breath
and if I shed a tear I won't cage it
I won't fear love
and if I feel a rage I won't deny it
I won't fear love
Companion to our demons
they will dance, and we will play
With chairs, candles, and cloth
making darkness in the day
It will be easy to look in or out
upstream or down without a thought
and if I shed a tear I won't cage it
I won't fear love
and if I feel a rage I won't deny it
I won't fear love
Peace in the struggle
to find peace
comfort on the way
to comfort
and if I shed a tear I won't cage it
I won't fear love
and if I feel a rage I won't deny it
I won't fear love
I won't fear love
I won't fear love...
