If you're looking for the cheapest accomodation, phone the Auberge de Jeunesse (Youth Hostel). Unfortunately I don't have the phone number, but apparently it's the cheapest. Ask at the Office du tourisme.

Chalet Chardon Bleu. Excellent Chalet in Argentiere set up by the company Ski Grands Montets (go to their website NOW!).. It's situated behind the Hotel des Grands Montets and run by a NEW OWNER, Rob Beaumont and Michele Young, whom I know. Michele Young has provided the hospitality and the catering for the last 5 years (apparently) and Rob, as the saying goes, liked it so much he bought the company.... . It's 5 mins walk to the Cable Car (150 metres), with great views on the Mont Blanc, the Argentieres Glacier and the Aiguille du Midi.

Check out the Auberge Camelia. Although not technically inside Chamonix, this Auberge looks extremely friendly and cozy and provides transport to the pistes! Go to their website for more information on this beautiful chalet.
