With off-pistes that makes even the americans jealous, we're talking about one cool mountain!
A good part of the skiing is done on a glacier, and you CAN go skiing on the Glacier D'Argentiere, but only at your
own risk! From the GM top cable car just go down towards the glacier, and
stop once you get to the crevasses!
This resort offers all types of skiing, like moguls with La Herse, a red-black run that
offers 5 kilometres of moguls! With Les Bochards, you can take "La Pendant"
an enormous snow bowl to the right of the mountain with rock cliffs and powder! But the pennultimate
is going to the top of Les Grands Montets where you can take three "pistes": Les Pylones, straight down
the mountain, Le Point de Vue next to the Glacier d'Argentiere(and on the Glacier if you're experienced enough!),
and "Le Pas de Chevre", an off-piste that leads to the Mer de Glace (only go with a guide or someone you know who's done it...
bring a rope!). Le "Pas de Chevre" is almost a mythical run, every Chamoniard knows it!
Also there are great places for relaxing with terrasses and cafes
littered around the place giving great views of the mountain and the skiers! It can get VERY crowded though,
and is a tad more expensive then the other resorts. Also, it is located in Argentieres,
and the access to Argentieres isn't always easy (long and winding road, quite narrow).
Great fun though!
There is also a new lift system on Les Bochards
which dampened the huge queues you used to get on the old one! I remember the old
days when I once had to wait a whole hour to get on it...but it was WORTH it!
With this new lift, I still haven't waited for more than 10 minutes! The queues to
go up to the top of les GM is still quite long though...
