Gary Numan hit the charts with his massive hit "are 'friends' electric?" in 1979. This was the first hit record ever which was based mostly on synthesizers. But compared to anything else that had been done in the area of synth music numan managed to create powerful and fascianting songs.
The most widely known numan song appears to be "cars". In these early days numan was hugely successful. Twice he managed to have a number one single while simultaneously having a number one album. He was the first to market videos of his extravant live shows.
In the mid-eighties his success declined. He went through several changes of his musical style. Ten years later numan still produces excellent albums - though mostly for his fans. He still tours the uk about once a year.

Gary numan was born as Gary Anthony Webb on the 8th of march in 1958. Then he did a lot of things that can be read about in his biography "Praying to the Aliens". Around 1977-1998 he formed the band Tubeway Army. Then he did a lot of things that can be read about in the above mentioned biography. Then, in 1997 he married gemma o'neal (whom I probably spelled wrong).
