Videos I Have Seen
.
This list was started on the 17th July 1997
- Reservoir Dogs - 7/10 - Monday 29th of
December 1997 - Mr Pink is a legend.
- Swingers - 8/10 - Saturday 27th of
December 1997 - See it!
- Blade Runner (Directors edition) - 7/10 - Friday
26th of December. I bought my brother this game for
Christmas so I got the urge to see this movie again. A
brief glimpse into a possible future, a dank dark gritty
miserable place. The backdrops in this film were just
amazing, lots of haze and lots of gigantic fans.
- Army of Darkness (Evil Dead III) - 9/10 - 4th
week of December. This is a must see movie.
Ash finds himself stuck in the past and I think that
pissed him off, because he sure has a lot of attitude in
this movie. More chaisaw weilding, sawnoff shotgun
slinging, one armed action. "Hail to the king
baby"
- Evil Dead II - 7/10 - 4th week of
December. The Sticker on the box declared that this video
was The horror/comedy of the Decayed and it
wasn't far wrong. An absolute classic. The dude who plays
Ash is a champion of an actor especially when
his hand gets possessed and he has to chop it of with a
chainsaw.
- Tank Girl - 7/10 - 4th week of December.
Really cool movie. The rippers were legends. I really
like the way the way they blended the comic stills in
with the rest of the movie.
- Lost World - 6/10 - 4th week of
December. I can't believe how different this movie was to
the book. I mean the main character in the book doesn't
even appear in the movie!!! The best bit about this movie
was sitting next to Heidi. I know the dinosaurs look
extremely life like but jeez!! I ended up with bruises.
- True Love and Chaos - 6/10 - November. A
rather cool Aussie road movie (surprise surprise).
- The Fugitive (TV) - 7/10 - November.
"A one arm man killed my wife".
Whatever Richard kymbal. I love this movie.
- So I Married an Axe Murderer (TV) - 7/10 - November.
Classic film. "His head (hid) is like a
planetoid with its own weather patterns and sateloids",
"He'll be crying himself to sleep on that
massive pillow of his!".
- Howard the Duck - 4/10 - Friday the 14th
of October 1997 - Not much to say here except that Heidi
remembered thinking it was funny in about 1988. Its
amazing how 9 years will affect your humour. The 4 is for
the sight of a duck with a cigar in his beak.
- The Castle - 8/10 - Friday the 14th of
October 1997 - I've been wanting to see this movie for
along time and just never got around to it, but I'm glad
to say it was worth the wait. The Castle is a real gem of
a movie made by the same people who made The Late Show
and the D Generation. What made The Castle so refreshing
was its unique Australian perspective(Same goes for Idiot
Box) , I mean could you imagine a film like that being
made in Hollywood. I just can't believe it wasn't
nominated for best film at the AFI (Australian Film
Industry) awards.
- Just Cause (TV) - 7/10 - Sunday 9th of
October 1997 - The most interesting part of this movie
was the way in which my perceptions of the characters
changed as the film progressed. Plus the fact that it was
about the 11th Connery movie shown on Tele in 8 days.
- Star Wars (The Special Edition)
- 9/10 - Saturday 8th October 1997 - Cool Cool
Cool. New Scenes, New Sounds, New Special Effects. I'm
still not 100% convinced about the new Jabba sequence, I
mean its a bloody impressive technical feat (At the
beginning of the video they show the original footage
with this fat dude in a fur coat acting out the part that
is now played by the digital Jabba) but I mean Jabba
looks a little thin and he just doesn't seem as repugnant
as he does in Return of The Jedi. But all in all this is
a very slick version of a legendary film.
- Phenomenon - 8/10 - Friday 31st October
1997 - A very sad film that is also very uplifting. John
Travolta stars in this movie about a simple farmer who on
his 37th Birthday witnesses a bright light in the sky and
hears a noise so loud that it knocks him off his feet. In
the weeks and months that follow he surprises himself
with his clarity of thought and a new found ability to
absorb information. He no longer feels the need to sleep
and spends his time thinking and reading. The local
townsfolk are at first quite impressed by these parlour
tricks but become quite distant and even hostile as Johns
mental feats become more and more incredible. (At one
stage in order to save the life of a little boy, he
learns the Portuguese language in 20 minutes, he also has
an ability to move small objects, such as a pencil,
seemingly at will). So while at first he felt empowered
by his ability to learn knew things, he then felt the
public sting of being labelled a freak. Thankfully he had
a few friends that stood by him, including the beautiful
uncomfortable chair maker. It is with her that he finds
inner piece once it is discovered that the strange
Phenomenon that has stuck him is actually the result of a
tumour eating into his brain. The tumour in its early
life promoted brain activity and hence provided an
increased mental capacity. Now however it is threatening
his life. A brain surgeon makes a plea to perform an
operation on his brain that will perhaps double human
knowledge of the working brain, but will in the process
most likely kill John. John then makes an incredible
speech about the beauty of life and the triumph of the
human spirit. He then returns to the beautiful chair
maker and prepares to die. This movie while being
extremely sad still leaves you with a very warm positive
feeling inside.
- Mute Witness - 4/10 - Friday 31st
October 1997 - Another one of Schneider's infamous movie
picks. A movie so bad that it was entertaining. Story
goes something like this...... An American film crew is
in Russia making a Horror film. One of the crew is a mute
who accidentally gets locked inside the studio after
hours and witnesses the making of a Snuff movie.
(Apparently a Snuff movie is a highly illegal black
market movie where the actors thinking that they are
taking part in a X-rated film are actually murdered on
film. Gruesome indeed!) The mute Witness is chased around
the studio and manages to escape the rogue film makers by
hiding near the body that she had just witnessed being
killed. From there the film twists and turns, Russian
gangsters are everywhere and everyone is either
undercover or being double-crossed. A very very Dodgy
movie.
- Escape from Absolom (TV) - 7/10 - Sunday
26th October 1997 - Similar in name and concept to Escape
From LA. This movie had a more serious edge to it and
that was what kept my attention. Anyone know from where
the quote "A society can be judged by the state
of its prisoners." comes from? For that was
what I was thinking about the whole time I was watching
this movie.
- Daylight - 5/10 - Tuesday 30th September
1997 - A Sly Stalone Blockbuster special. Some tunnel
under New York harbour has collapsed and its up to Sly to
save everyone which of course he does with micro seconds
to spare.
- Waynes World II (TV) - 7/10 - Sunday
28th of September 1997 - After coming back from 8 hours
of Sega World with Benny and
Trent, I was way to hyper to go to bed, so I was pleased
to crash out in front of Wayne and Garth. Party time,
Excellent. Classic moment was when they were in The
ToolBox.
- Mars Attacks - 6/10 - Saturday 27th of
September 1997 - This was one trippy movie. It was kind
of like Attack of the Killer tomatoes but with Martians.
I have to say that the Martians were a lot cooler as bad
dudes then the tomatoes were!! The animation was
incredible but not good enough to keep Heidi awake who to her defence had
had a huge day out at the bush
concert.
- Jaws - 7/10 - Thursday 18th of September
- Der Da ..... - Der Da ..... - Der Da ..... - Der Da -
Der Da - Der Da - Arrrggghhh. One hell of a tough fish -
12 bullets, 3 barrels and an exploding oxygen tank tough.
- Empire Strikes Back - 9/10 -
Sunday arvo 14th of September - Seen it a
thousand times will see it a thousand more.
- Aliens (TV) - 9/10 - Friday the 12th of
September 1997 - One of the best Sci-fi movies of all
time and one of the coolest settings for a movie ever.
- The People Vs Larry Flint - 7/10 -
Friday the 5th of September 1997 - Larry Flint apart from
being a very seedy dude
is also very bloody funny. A courtroom drama with a high
seed factor, The People Vs Larry Flint is an interesting
movie that highlights the importance of freedom of
speech. Woody is excellent as Flint, as is Courtney Love
as Flints wife.
- True Romance - 8/10 - Tuesday 2nd of
September 1997 - One of Heidi's
favourite movies and for good reason. You're so cool.
A big line up of well known actors, and a cool
script make this a movie you can watch again and again.
- Last Man Standing - 6/10 - Sunday 31st
of August 1997 - Bruce Willis in a mad gun slinging
movie. Best shooting action in a movie since Desperado.
- From Dusk Till Dawn - 9/10 - Friday 29th
of August 1997 - An absolute corker of a movie. A very
original if not twisted script filled with classic lines
and performed with style. The movie was chock filled with
classic jokes and mindless violence, what else could you
ask for.
- The Crow: City of Angels - 6/10 - Saturday
16th of August 1997 - The first time I saw The Crow I
didn't get it. I thought it was a stupid concept for a
movie, I just didn't get it. The second time I saw it I
loved it, I really felt the depth of the movie and was
stirred by the feelings of love displayed by the
characters. With City of Angels I think I may
have missed the main theme of the movie. While it had its
moments City of Angels seemed more to be about
revenge than about love. The main character in this film
was no where near as cool as Eric Draven either (but then
he didn't play guitar did he!)
- Escape from LA - 6/10 - Saturday 16th of
August 1997 - Snake Plissken is one cool dude. A bizarre
idea for a movie but Snake and the surreal ending made it
watchable.
- Hype (Documentary about the Seattle Grunge Music
Phenomenon) - 6/10 - Friday 1st of August 1997 -
Hype is a movie that I have been quite keen to see for
quite a while. It proved to be more an informative movie
than an interesting one. Hype is a documentary about
Seattle and the music it spawned between the years 1985?
to 1993?. Hype was true to is cause and spent an even
amount of time telling the story of lesser known bands
such as The Melvins and Seven Year Bitch
as it did about the bigger bands such as Pearl Jam,
Nirvana, Alice in Chains etc as a result Hype didn't
really do it for me. It seemed to be more of a
documentary than a story. All that being said it did have
a killer soundtrack an some really awesome footage.
- Scream - 8/10 - Friday 1st of August
1997 - What an awesome movie. I was never a real big fan
at horror movies but this one was done with such style
how could ya not love it. Scream is an apt title because
this is one hell of a scary movie, luckily as the movie
progress while the scares remain just as frequent the
laughs increase as scream makes fun of its own genre.
Classic quote "I've never been so glad to be a
virgin" I highly recommend scream and it keeps
your attention from the first minute through to the
fantastic (I won't let on what happened) ending. Rent it.
- Pulp Fiction - 9/10 - Saturday 26th July
1997 - This was about my 8th viewing of Pulp Fiction.
This time I was watching it on a fuzzy 10 inch screen
after a day wandering around in the snow, and I still
found it to be one of the best movies of all time. You
just can't beat the way Vincent "My man in
Amsterdam" Vega and Jules "My man from
Englewood" ??Whatever his name is?? Interact
with each other. Pork chops taste good!!!
- BattleStar Galactica - 6/10
-Wednesday 23rd July 1997 - Now this was a blast from the
past. See if these names ring any bells Apollo,
Starbuck, Boomer and some random robot dog like
thing called Muppet. These are the heroes of
BattleStar Galactica. They are involved in a fight to
save humanity from destruction at the hands of the
metallic CYLONS. Pretty cool flick, quite serious in
parts. Well worth watching just for laughs, and just to
hear that killer theme music again.
- Clerks - 9/10 -Saturday
19th July 1997 - Saw Chasing Amy at the movies this week
so we thought we'd get clerks out again. Some interesting
references to characters from Chasing Amy and Mall Rats.
Once again J and Silent Bob are way cool but in this case
I think Randall the lazy video store clerk steals the
show. He has some of the best lines you could ever want
to say as an actor. If you haven't seen this movie yet do
yourself a favour and rent it!!!!!
- The Fan - 3/10 - Friday
18th July 1997 - Umm what can I say this movie just
didn't do it for me. I ended up falling asleep before the
end of it.
- Poltech?? Magna Video - 6/10
- Thursday 7th July 1997 - Damn I can't remember the name
of this video. It was a really well drawn (Aren't they
all) Magna film. Cool story about Robotech like worker
robots called Labours. These big robots have
been randomly been going beserk for what seems like no
reason. Its up to our hero to work out why! Pretty Cool.
- Beneath the Planet of the Apes - 5/10
-Wednesday 6th July 1997 - Not nearly as good as the
original but still entertaining.
- Planet of the Apes - 9/10
- Tuesday 5th July 1997 - I loved this movie. The
Sojourner had just landed on mars and so I was in the
mood for a SCI FI flick. I can't believe this movie was
made before man had even landed on the moon. A really
thought provoking film. Plus if you haven't seen it yet
you've missing out on a heck of a lot of Simpson jokes!
How can you mention Planets of the apes without
mentioning that famous ending. "You Maniacs! You
Blew it Up!!!"
- Desperado - 8/10
-Sunday 3rd July 1997 - Starring that Latin lover Antonio
Banderras. Antonio appears to be living by the motto
"If it moves shoot it, if it doesn't move shoot it
till it does!". There is some awesome gun slinging
action in this film along with some wicked guitar playing
and a none to shabby script. Very entertaining.
- Six Degrees Of Separation - 7/10
-Sunday 3rd July 1997 - A lot different to how I thought
it would be. A very arty type film that is
exceptionally done. I liked this movie a lot.
- Spanking the Monkey - 1/10
- Sunday 3rd July 1997 - A very disturbed film. Do
yourself a favour avoid this like the plague.
- Free Jack - 6/10 -Sunday 3rd July 1997 -
Futuristic SCI Fi film with Emilio Estevaz and Mick
Jagger. Better than average.
- Rumble in the Bronx - 8/10
- Saturday 2nd July 1997 - "Kung Fu do what you do
to me, I haven't been the same since my teenage
lobotomy" This is a line from the ASH song
that features in this film. Jacky Chan movies are always
good value and this one is no different. Jacky heads to
America to attend his Uncles Wedding. While he's there he
gets into trouble with a gang of biker hoods. Jacky gets
into many awesome fights with the gang but then teams up
with them to fight the greater fight a bunch of Jewel
thieves. The final fight/chase seen involves a huge hover
craft. Jacky is without a doubt a living legend.
