To me, those words always spoke of Styx themselves. The men.
They were like Lords to me when I was a fragile 13 yr old. I was entering
that time in my life when "peer pressure" was going to be around me at
all times, threatening and challenging me. So it was their music that
helped to lead me away from the drugs and alcohol that could very
easily have damaged me in some way. They made me feel like I was fine
the way I was. Songs such as, "I'm O.K." and "The Grand Illusion". Their
words seemed like a magic elixer that transformed me every time I would
put on those headphones or simply CRANK the stereo. The music took me
over....the words ran through me.....I lived and breathed STYX. The outside
world full of fears and insecurity just melted away......."Aku Aku....."

That was the old days of Styx in the '80's. It's 1999 now, and Styx is going strong with a totally new CD called "Brave New World." This CD is reminiscent of the days of "Miss America," "Grand Illusion," and "Blue Collar Man," in the way that it rocks and even rivals todays "grunge" bands. Yet there is a new 90's sound and style that exhibits their growth through the years as artists and as people. The lyrics are typically Styx with profound meaning, virtue and heart. Not to mention a bit of sarcasm and humor.

Don't wait for critics to tell you whether or not to get "Brave New World," as they are notoriously anti-Styx. If you loved Styx before, you will love them again. I play my CD daily and know every song by heart, just like the old days. My family loves it too, with my kids begging and pleading for me to "turn it up!" (Which is NEVER a problem.)

Take my advice, buy the CD. You won't regret it.
