This is the day that will always stick in my head as one of the most important days of my life. This was the day that my best friend since 7th grade and I were to see our rock idols, Styx. The "Gorge At George" as it's called, is a huge outdoor amphitheatre overlooking the beautiful Columbia River. The view is spectacular, but it was nothing compared to the men on the stage that night. On this late summer afternoon, the crowd was anxiously awaiting the entrance of the band they had come to see. We had all been pleasantly entertained by the legendary rock group Kansas, but we were still impatiently waiting for Styx. The day was hot, but as always at the amphitheatre, there was a cool breeze blowing through the crowd. A huge roar came from the mass of people surrounding the stage as Dennis DeYoung, James Young, Chuck Panozzo, Tommy Shaw and Todd Sucherman came running out on the stage. The guys were all smiles as they talked to the audience and began their night of harmonious music.
"Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime..."
I remember peering through my binoculars trying to get a good look at each of the guys. I am short, so at times it was difficult to see. When I did see I was completely mesmerized at the idea that here I was -- finally -- seeing Styx for the first time ! They all looked great, I could hardly tell that it had been so many years ago that I had fantasized daily about this moment. The music was perfection, the lighting and surrounding scenery were awesome, the crowd was hyped and the guys were having a ball. It was a great concert. An almost perfect concert. It would have been perfect if we had been just a little closer. On July 30th, my best friend Steph and I will be able to witness that "perfect" concert. It will be minus the beautiful Gorge Amphitheatre, but we will be IN THE FRONT ROW!!! I am in shock now, but I will snap out of it by the time we go to the concert. Ok, guys, here we come!!! *big smile*
