Christmas Ramblings of Lady Shel
hristmas is such a special time of the year. People rushing around
looking for just the right thing to buy their family member, significant
other, co-worker, or just about anyone else you can think of. There is
a magic in the air. Not to mention Christmas Carols playing as you shop.
have always loved Christmas. I remember when I was a child putting out
a plate of cookies and milk, and I'd wake the next morning and they'd be
gone. I was happy that Santa got to eat a snack while he was busily
delivering all those toys to children all over the world.
Ahhh... Christmas of my youth...
ow that I'm an adult it seems so much more complicated. I now have to
budget my money. I can no longer freely buy whatever I wish for everyone
on my list. I am no longer with the means to do so. As a matter of fact,
this Christmas my husband isn't even working, so we're trying to make due
on unemployment while he hunts for work. It's not much fun, I'll tell
you. But, we will manage. I keep hoping he'll come home one evening
and tell me he is now among the employed once more. :)
hristmas...
think my favorite Christmas memory since I've been an adult would have
to be one year when my first husband, my daughter and I went to Yosemite.
It wasn't for Christmas day, but it was the day after. Being from San
Francisco, I rarely see snow without venturing up to the mountains, so
it was a wonderful treat to go.
e started out early in the morning, and by the time we reached the park
it had begun to snow. I'll never forget the way the snowflakes looked
as they landed on the windshield of the car. I remember buying some
ornaments from the gift shop 1/2 price. That was a nice Christmas time.
n 1988, I spent my first official "White Christmas" visiting a friend I knew
from online. He lived in St. Paul, and like I said, I'm just a California
girl. Never get to see snow. It had been snowing a bit before I arrived,
and he had a sliding glass door with a small deck, and I will how silly
I was that year. I danced on the deck in my barefeet. Crazy? You bet,
but that's me. *grin* It was very novel to me to have snow, and I wanted
to experience it fully. I didn't stay out so long as to get frostbite,
just enough to get cold wet feet and experience *snow*.
hen I was about 12, I remember another Christmas season.. again, it wasn't
Christmas day, but it was close to Christmas. My mother, father, my cat,
"Chubby" and I drove up to Strawberry. This is in the Sierra Nevada's,
on the way to Lake Tahoe, CA. We just drove up for the day in my parents
red station wagon. I will never forget, we stopped at a small restaurant
off the highway, and there was snow all over the ground, and we took
Chubby out of the car and put him on the fence, which was also covered
with snow. He didn't much like it, being wet and cold.
But, he got to experience the snow as well.
abian family traditions.. there are a couple... Besides having the cornbread
stuffing with our turkey, it's pretty much a tradition to buy each other
'Dearform' slippers. I sure can use them this year. I hope my mom remembers.
*grin* And lastly, when we open our gifts,
we always wear all our bows on our heads.
We all are silly, you might say. So my dancing in the snow wasn't all
that odd for me. I inherited my silliness. *giggle*
f my husband finds work before Christmas, my daughter should be coming to
visit again for a week. She was out for a month this July/August. It was
really good to see her. I only get to see her once or twice a year. She
lives with my ex-husband in Wisconsin. She's 16 now.. *sigh* how time flies.
hope that this holiday season is a warm and wonderful one for everyone,
and I hope you get all you wish for under the tree this year.
Lady Shel :)
