Conceived largely in the aftermath of a failed romance, these songs were hurriedly recorded in bedrooms, closets, and kitchens using very basic -- and often borrowed -- equipment that I was only then learning how to use. For example, "Worthless" was recorded in the same week that I bought my first guitar. But for every glitch or cheesy sentiment that makes me cringe while listening to these, I find two or three things to like: a turn of phrase, an unexpected harmony, a vocal moment that captures the emotion that provoked the song. In sum, I'm glad I had the tape running several years back. And, if you can overlook the admitted self-indulgence of the project, I hope you, too, can find something to enjoy on this disc.
