Dorian Taj, Dorian Taj (Platypus) CD
The Beatles, The Byrds, Gram Parsons and Husker Du. How many bands
would number these four amongst their influences? And how many of
those would do anything more than sound either (a) derived or (b)
crap? A small percentage, I think you'll agree. Dorian Taj is one of
that select few, a verteran of a pile of Chicago bands I've never
heard of (try Wait For Light, Articles of Faith, End Result) and now
proud father of his own solo album. The record weaves together threads
of Buffalo Springfield's country songwriting, Buffalo Tom's
introspection and Buffalo Bill's restless spirit into a coherent
whole. It's probably a lazy comparison, but Neil Young springs to
mind. A class act.
