According to some people, the turning point in bass-player Gary Gilchrist's life was when he tried out for the Sex Pistols but was rejected cos he wouldn't eat the sandwiches. This event obviously affected him deeply, making him write songs that reek of dejection, rejection and injection in dilapidated inner-city slums. "The city" is a desolate place to visit if this windswept, undulating drone is anything to go by. Juxtaposing a slowed-down disco beat with wheezing, bending in-and-out-of-tune chords and some unsettling singing The Freed Unit have come up with another grimy masterpiece.
