Howard
Gripp and Stinger,
Walk away (Statue)
Kicking off in excellent Mudhoney-meets-metal style with "Forever
lost" and following up with a punchy, edgy "Walk away", the initial
signs are good for Howard Gripp. Sadly, from the promising start,
things slide downhill fast as we move into commercial rock territory;
the requisite fretboard dexterity, the correct number of
power-ballads, the ballsy-but-restrained blues-rockers, all are
here. Which, if you like that sort of thing is great because they're
executed with great skill and are certainly a cut above the
average. However, given the first two tracks, HG could do a lot better
than this and hopefully, with the next record, he will.
