Placebo @ The Corn Exchange, Cambridge
A three-piece at the Corn Exchange have the potential to create great
sonic things but, unfortunately, tonight was not the night for sound
quality. The bass was too high and the vocals too often lost in the
mix which detracted from Placebo's tight performance. As usual, the
singles were the crowd-pleasers and provided the raunchier part of the
set. These were interspersed with slower numbers, presumably from the
new album, that seemed deep, meaningul and angst-ridden. If these
tunes dominate the record it'll be interesting to see how long the
teen fans stay on board. I was glad to see that Placebo are still
finishing the set with their oustanding instrumental Wild West
theme. Worth seeing for this one track...if you can hear them, of
course. (Donna Donnelly)
