New to the channel and need help downloading mp3z?
Here are a few helpful instructions so that you can get the songs and videos you want from the servers on our channel.
Bigo81's note (1/3/2002): .zip files are now
blocked by IRC servers on Dalnet by default. To get a zip file (many
people zip their lists for faster downloads), you must first type: /dccallow
+'nick'. To get my zipped list, you must type /dccallow +bigo81
. Then type @bigo81 to get list.
Bigo81's note (6-26-2000): If you are using mIRC 5.71 or higher (click on help -
about in mIRC to find version information), you have to specify what file types
to accept. This is different from previous versions where you specified
file types to ignore. Click on File - Options - Dcc - Folders and add
*.mp3, *.txt, *.zip to the 'Ignore all files except" box. You will
also need to add any other file extension there you want to be able to
receive.
- First, you must do this. In your mirc, go up to file, options, then sounds, requests. (If you don't see requests, click on the + next to sounds) Highlight requests, and then uncheck the box that says send !nick as private message. Remember to click on ok after changing this setting.
-
Next, to get a tune...stop the scroll long enough to highlight the !nick filename.mp3 part of the ads you see going by. (click on the scroll bar to stop the scrolling.)
-
Highlighting with your mouse automatically copies, then paste to the channel. To paste, go to the status line (where you type) and right mouse click and choose paste. Make sure you do not have a space before the !
-
Another way to get files is to request a list and copy & paste from the list. Most servers respond to @nick and will send their list. (Replace nick with the server's nickname.)
-
@locator is a search tool. If you are looking for something specific, try typing @locator and a part of either the artist name or the song title. Keep it simple because the more words you put in your @locator search, the less likely you will find a match as servers may have their songs named differently but on the other hand, doing a search for a common word may get you a lot of responses and not the one you want. You will receive either private notices or private messages with the matches from your @locator request. Copy & paste from those to request what you want.
-
Once you have made your request, wait for an acknowledgement that the request was received, This usually is in the form of a private notice or private message to you. The server scripts will either advise you of your place on a waiting list called a que or send the file. It does not help to repeat your request several times. If you are not sure if your request was acknowledged, you can check the server's que status by typing @nick-que (replace nick with the nick they are using.) Also, our server scripts will not respond to requests made in color or with a bold font.
-
You will be asked to accept the file. Once you have accepted the file, it will begin to download to your mirc/download directory. If for any reason, you do not complete the download, simply request the file again as you did the first time and when the file is sent again, mirc will see your partial file and ask you if you want to overwrite or resume.
-
To speed up your DCC transfers, type /fsend on & /pdcc 2147483647 &
/dcc packetsize 4096
You can also put these 3 lines in your mirc perform options to do automatically for you on connect. Go up to file, options, irc, perform and type them in the big white box. Check the box above it that says on connect, perform these. Click ok after adding these.
-
A word of caution, many servers have minimum cps limits. This means that if your transfer rate falls below acceptable standards, it is cancelled for being too slow. With this in mind, please don't request more than you can accept & transfer at decent speeds. If you're on a 33.6 modem or less, this means you probably should not attempt to download more than 1 or 2 files at a time.
