Amy looked at Lindsay and August. August smiled and jumped to the phone. She dialed Ellie's number quickly. It rang once. Ellie's brother answered.
"Hello?"
"Um, hi. Is Ellie there?"
"Yea, just a sec."
"Thanks."
"No problem."
She heard him set down the phone and walk away, and yell for Ellie. She soon picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey, its me."
"Hey Aug."
"Ok, I want you over here in about 10 minutes, ok?"
"Um, ok. Why?"
"You're gonna meet my friend from New York."
"Alright. See ya in a bit."
"K, bye bye!"
"Bye!"
They hung up. August sat back on the floor just as Chris re-entered the room.
"Ok. We've got Ellie coming over. Now we have to get the guys over." said August.
"Yea. So call them." suggested Amy.
"Do I have to?"
"Do you want them over here?" asked Lindsay.
"Well, yea."
"So call!!"
"Alright. Fine."
She sighed and picked up the phone. She quickly pressed in the phone number. It rang, then it beeped. A recorder said:
"I'm sorry. This number is no longer in use. Please check the dialing, and try again."
August hung up and punched in the numbers again. The recording came on again. She sighed and placed the phone back in the cradle. She turned back to the group.
"They changed the number."
"Shoot. Ok. Do you have a pager number or something?"
"I don't know."
She got up and walked over to her desk. She checked the drawer, and came back with a piece of paper. She sat down at the phone and dialed the number. She waited, then hung up.
**At the Hanson House**
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
Zac woke up, startled. He had fallen asleep while listening to music The CD was now over, so the room was silent. He looked around to find what had woken him up. He lifted up one of Taylor's shirt to reveal Taylor's pager. He picked it up and pressed the MESSAGE button. A number flashed on the screen. It was August's. He had mixed feelings about her right now. On one hand, it seemed that she was cheating on his brother. But on the other hand, she was his best friend. He got up and went in search of Taylor. He found him working on the computer.
"Hey Tay?"
Taylor glanced back.
"Yea Zac?"
"Can I ask you something?"
Taylor spun around in his chair.
"Sure, shoot."
"Ok. Well, I was wondering...."
"What Zac?"
"Well..."
"Spit it out!"
"If you'd let me talk, I will!" laughed Zac.
Taylor laughed.
"Ok. Now, I was asking. Are you and August still going out?"
Taylor sighed.
"I don't know Zac. I really don't know. I mean, we never officially "broke up", but we aren't really together. Get what I'm saying?"
"Yea. You're still together, but not very strong."
Taylor bit his lip and nodded.
"She paged you Tay."
"What?"
"August paged you." Zac replied, holding up the pager.
"What are you doing with my pager?"
"It woke me up. It started beeping and it woke me up."
"Um, ok, whatever. Call her and see whats up."
"Why can't you?"
"Cuz she talks to you."
"Alright, fine."
Zac walked out of the room, towards the phone. He picked it up and dialed the number.
**At August's House**
"Ok, are they gonna call back or not?" August asked impatiently.
"They will, don't worry."
"I know. I know."
Finally, the phone rang. August grabbed it.
"Hello?"
"Hi."
"Oh. Hi."
"Yea! Nice to talk to you too Aug!"
"Oh, sorry Zac, I was expecting Taylor, since its his pager."
"Yea, I know. But I got the message."
"How?"
"The pager woke me up."
"Oh! I'm sorry!"
"Its ok."
"I had to get a hold of you guys, and you changed your phone number, so that was the only way I knew how to get a hold of you."
"Hey, that's fine. So, whats up?"
"Well, a bunch of us are over here and we were going to watch a movie and hang out. We wanted to know if you guys could come over. You can meet Ellie...."
"We'll be there!!!"
"Alrighty. Bring both of your brothers, ok?"
"Duh. I will."
"Ok. Come over in about 15 minutes."
"Ok"
"Bye"
"Bye"
August hung up the phone. It rang about 30 seconds later.
"Hello?"
"I don't know where your house is."
"Oh yeah. You've never seen it. Ok, here are the directions. Go out to the end of your driveway, look to your left down the street, and look for a black jeep in the driveway, alright?"
"You live that close?"
"Yea."
"Cool."
"Yup. Come over in about 15 minutes, ok?"
"Ok, will do!!"
"Bye Zac"
"Bye."
She hung up the phone and rolled her eyes.
"He didn't know where I lived!"
She laughed, and everyone joined in. About 2 minutes later, the buzzer for the door rang. August walked over to the intercom and pressed the TALK button.
"Hello?"
"Hi. Um, its Ellie."
"Oh, hi! The door should be unlocked. Come on in!"
"Ok, be down in a second!"
August walked back and sat next to Chris on the floor. Ellie appeared down in the door. She had a Hanson T-Shirt on. August noticed this.
"Hey!" she called.
"Hi!" came 4 responses.
August got up and walked over to the closet and pulled out a blue T-shirt. She handed it to Ellie.
"Put this on."
"What? Why?"
"Do it. You'll thank me later. Trust me." she grinned.
Ellie nodded and took the shirt. She went into the bathroom to change. She came out a few seconds later and tossed the shirt down in a pile near the wall.
"I'll get it later. Is that ok?"
August nodded.
"Sure."
"Ok."
She sat next to Amy.
"Oh yeah!" August laughed. "Ellie, these are my cousins, Chris and Amy. Chris and Amy, this is Ellie. She lives across the street."
Chris and Amy said their hellos.
"Where's your friend from New York?" asked Ellie.
"I don't know. He should be here." she said, checking the clock.
"Well, I told him 15 minutes, so he should be here down in about 5 minutes."
"Ok." said Ellie. "I can't wait to meet him."
"Oh, I know. I know."
August grinned. Amy, Lindsay, and Chris joined down in. Ellie looked around.
"What?!" she exclaimed.
"Oh, you'll see."
Just then, the buzzer rang.
