Sub-Mission LIVE!. It's the project that started the whole Subrec empire. The show debuted on a local cable access channel in suburban St. Paul, Minnesota, in a one hour talk-show format. Our first guest was Jim Melby. The theme song for the TV show was "Turnbuckle Stomp" by Canadian hardcore outfit Stretch Marks.
Jim Melby has many great jobs on his resume, including: Co-author of a book with Vern Gagne (owner and many time champion of the AWA), editor of Vern Gagne's Pro-Wrestling Report, AWA Referee, AWA ring announcer, Husker Du's road manager, and manager of St. Paul's best independent record store, Northern Lights. Jim talked a lot about wrestling, some of the behind the scene's stuff and some of the basic fan info type stuff. After the show was over, Jim taught me my first wrestling hold, the Flying Toehold.
The second show was an all music show and featured local "mod" band, The Way. During the live cablecast of the show, the they destroyed the set of the show, swore up a storm and got the show shut down 45 minutes into the hour. The final 15 minutes were killed off with tape of the band playing in the studio which was recorded about 1 week earlier. What a disaster!
The third and final show in this format featured The Ain't. The Ain't featured members of the Sub-Mission LIVE! staff. As before, the band's performance was recorded 1 week prior to the live cablecast. The live portion of the show was only used for interviews and discussion. This show also featured 2 guest hosts, Mike & Andy, who were needed since the normal hosts were in the band.
That show as to be the final show in this format due to the inability to book reliable bands, the lack of funds to afford wrestlers as guests, and the inability to control The Way during the second show forced the cable staff to force us to make a programming change.
The Sub-Mission LIVE! staff were:
Tim Kelly
Daved Hagel
