Sub-Mission LIVE!

Radio

Sub-Mission LIVE! Radio was the bastard son/off-shoot of Sub-Mission LIVE!. Sub-Mission LIVE! Radio was a revolutionary program in that it was the first ever radio program on TV. Sphinx & Lee would spin their favorite punk rock records over wacky scenery or pre-programmed text.

The show was still being done live, but eventually was extended to two hours in length. A typical playlist would include not only the big L.A., New York & English punk bands, but also local acts. S.L.R., as it became known as, went on for about 1 year before running into legal problems with the local cable commission. They filed suit against the shows producer, Daved Hagel, for playing songs with swearing in the lyrics and for "not conforming with community standards". After several months of constant jerking around by the Executive Director of the cable channel, S.L.R. again made history (again) when the commission banned Daved from not only producing public access programming, but also banned him from the cable station. This was the first ever official "censorship" of this kind in the country. The case was later argued down to a 1 year suspension. The show continued on with Tim Kelly acting as producer for a few months until the whole legal process was started over again against Tim.

Tired from the legal hassles, and weekly regimen of producing a live weekly programming, the whole S.L.R. staff took some much needed time off to pursue new projects. But this was not to be the end, and the crew did work on taping various other cable shows during this down time.
