REACTIONS ON LAST WEEK STING SONGS

From: Lithium Sunset

This is what he found out:

* Healing Hands: is o.a. released by Elton John. Could be true they have a very good relationship with eachother. This song is on a Japanese EP, perhaps on an album aswell ?

* Bicycle: Everybody know Queen's version, Also saw "Blue Night Special". This is more like jazz, could be that he wrote a jazz song.

* Released: was released by "Armored Saint" a hard rock band. "Don't think so, that this will be written by Sting !". The track can be find on the album "Delirious Nomad", have to check this.

From: Scott Lapatine

Hey Erwin,
I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but the below song is actually a parody of "Money For Nothing," featured in the 'Weird' Al Yankovic movie "UHF." Because it is a parody of "Money For Nothing," (which Knopfler and Sting co-wrote), I assume that is why Sting is given writing credit for "Beverly Hillbillies." The other songs you mentioned, however, I have never heard of, and am very interested in learning about. Thanks for the info!

The Red hot & rio CD has been released. You can find one Sting song with Antonio Carlos Jobim on the CD. The Song is ofcourse "How Insensitive"

Antilles Records 533183-2

There has been released another Police greatest hits album. The songs and back cover are equal to the #Every breath you take" classics. This time the finally used a nice close-up photo as the front cover. The disc looks a bit like the Classics one but is not the same. Booklet is from the inside equal to the Classics release except for the front cover and back cover which has information about the MF album.

This one is probably released in Europe only, perhaps some of our Amercian friends can have a ook in their stores to see if there is any other version.

The Police - Greatest Hits A&M 540380-2

What I can say about this release of yet another greatest hits is that I like the front cover, rest is only A&M cashing in.

On November 29th a band called "Blue Thunder" will release a CD. The members of this band are a.o. Paul Williams, D. Heated and M. Moody. Andy is featured on a couple of tracks.

The newest 5"CD single from Japan will be "I was brought to my senses", it will be released on October 28th.

Hello and YYaaaaahhhhoooooo,

Good news, the bbc is releasing lots of new cd's of police recordings and concerts from the early years including Gateshead and others, they are also releasing a lot of Genesis and Eric Clapton, The BBC state that they have at least a cd full of Police songs that have never been released at all. They are forming a record label and plan to release up to 20 cd's per month from January '97.The reason for this is down to the recent change in the Musicians union rules.

Erwin Kempen: Well I hope to do this very soon, will make a complete story about all the colours of Can't stand losing you, oke ?

>You once said that the rarest Police single was:
>Don't stand so close to me (3.37)/Friends (3.35) Japan promo ALAM 103

>Shadows in the rain 3:00/Roxanne 3:12 A&M ASS 5680

>It has no PS but as far as I know is the only Shadows in the rain
>single in the world (correct me if I am wrong)

Erwin Kempen: Sure it is the only Police single of Shadows in the Rain. What is strange is your cataloque #, I think it should be A&M DEP 167. You can get this single not easily, but for collectors who know their dealers it shouldn't be such a big problem to get this item. The Japanese promo is so rare because of its sleeve, and probably only a few (100 !) copies have been made. Collectors will pay big bucks for such items ofcourse.

Well, IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat... It is accessible from most Internet providers (I would assume) It's different for each Internet service as to how to access it. The user would have to consult with their service for details. The onlu important thing that needs to be expressed is that there are a couple different IRC networks..(EFNet, UnderNet, and EpixNet come to mind) You will need to make sure you are on EFnet. EfNet is the biggest IRC Network, so most places are probably defaulted for EfNet anyway. Once you are fully connected, you pick a nickname by typing /nick (your nickname)... From there, all the user has to do is type /j #sting And you're there! I am on under the nickname of spaCeb0y. So if you see me, say hi!

Anything else I can help with or clarify?
Just ask :)

>Gateshead one you mentioned and has about 20 songs.

>The bad news. I hope you're sitting down. The price for the video is 6000
>yen with tax.

The tourist rate for the £ and yen yesterday (7/10/96) was 173 yen for every UK pound. This video works out very expensive so our only hope was for this to be released in Europe and America. We have checked and it is ONLY being released in Japan. No plans have been made for it to be brought out elsewhere. Why ? Even at it's high price we would still buy a copy if it was compatible with our video at least our NASC based American friends will be able to enjoy it if they can get hold of a copy.

Bye

Hello Erwin,

Just one comment to make, for all the people looking to get the shows on Premiere, although the channel is dycrypted you can still get the sound totally clear, and it is available on almost all the european satellites, just thought I would pass this on as all the rem fans dont need to miss those shows, in 6the uk premiere is on channel 41 on satellite.

in issue #3 you wrote:

Well, I compared the recording on the 12" with bootlegs from Montreal and Atlanta. This version is definitely from 03.11.83 Atlanta!!!

In this issue you wrote a very interesting article about coverversions:

1.)>* BEVERLY HILLBILLIES

 > Writers
> HENNING PAUL

> Publishers
> CAROLINTONE MUSIC COMPANY INC

I have a recording of this one: 1989 Weird Al Yankovic: "Money for nothing/Beverly hillbillies" 3 min. LP exc- I think I got this one from Simon Castellan.

2.) * RELEASED

> Writers
> STING

> Publishers
> REGGATTA MUSIC LTD

Is this one from the LP "Arrested" by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & Friends ?

3.)* TEST ADD BARBIE

> Writers

> IRVING MUSIC INC
> REGGATTA MUSIC LTD
> ADDITIONAL PUBLISHER(S)

This sounds like a real FREAK. Where have you got this information from ? This sounds very, very interesting !!!

----------------------------------------------
But I also have some other compositions on my list that I am searching for:
a) 1982 Jools Holland 7" "Grand Hotel" (written or co-written by Sting???)
b) 1990 Jools Holland LP "World Of His Own" (written by Sting & backing vocals by Sting???)
c) 1980 Lee Stirling 7" "Earthquake Landslide Hurricane/Soul Music (written by Gordon Sumner)"

What do you think about these ones ?!?

Erwin Kempen: "grand Hotel" you can find on the album "World of his own" which you can find ver easy in England. The album is from 1990. The Lee Sterling single is difficult to find because it was no hit in the UK. Both song are from Last Exit period.

_____________________________

>>3. When, how, where, why was the slow version of The truth
>>hits everybody recorded?. Why is it so difficult to find?

>Erwin Kempen: The slow version is already from 1979/1980. The Police
>even did this version a few times live.

Yes, you are right. The Police played the slow version on some concerts (early 1980) but the recording which is on the single (B-side Synchronicity II from Holland) is in my eyes a 1983 recording as they use a drum computer. Even if you hear Sting's voice you think that this is a later period of the band. They recorded it probably during the recording sessions for Synchronicity or during the rehearsals for the upcoming Synchronicity tour. I doubt if this vinyl recording is from 1979...

That's it for the recent issues of FREAKS. Let's see what the future brings us...
