Just back from Velez Stadium. Excellent show. A thousand years back to the set list, Shape of my heart as first encore, message in a bottle back. Rest of the set pretty much the same as the previous show.
Sting asked Dominic where he was from..."En espaħol!!"... Dominic said he was from Buenos Aires (Porteħo) and supported River Plate football team. Some people dissaproved so Sting said..."and Boca?" (referring to the other popular team in Buenos Aires).
Jason wore a T-shirt from the "Madres de plaza de Mayo", but they didn t play They Dance Alone.
To sum up, an excellent show, band performed at the best of their abilities. Great. Guess the gig will be broadcasted during the next days.
The concert was awesome, incredible, fantastic!!!!! Ok, lets start from the beginning.
We arrived to the Velez Sarsfield Stadium (a football / soccer stadium) at 7.15, when the local band "La portuaria" was already performing. We had row 1 center, just in front of the microphone. It was our first time being so close, so we were really excited.
At 8 o'clock Sheryl Crow started her show. She performed for an hour, with the stadium half-full and daylight.
Five minutes after the set hour, at 9.35, Sting appeared on the scene. He was wearing the black sleeveless t-shirt and the same cargo trousers. The crowd (between 25000 and 30000 people) went mad. There were chairs on the field, but nobody stayed seated. Most of the people from the back seats came to the front, filling the corridors between the chairs.
Sting was in good mood, encouraging people to sing and clap, and everybody sang (or shout?) during the whole concert. His voice was perfect, much better than the last time he came to Argentina (1994). Although the concert was in an open stadium, the sound was excellent.
Chris Botti, with shorter and blonder hair, looked much younger. Sting introduced Dominic Miller as "el porteno", name given to the people born in Buenos Aires. He asked Dominic where he was from and, when Dominic was going to answer, Sting said "en espanol!". Then, they joked about Dominic supporting the River Plate football team.
The set list (We don't remember the order; any Argentinean can help?)
We know most of you that have seen Sting many times find this show boring. Unfortunately, we cannot see him very often; we would love to have the opportunity to see him so often until we get bored of him!! We could sum up how the concert was mentioning that today, on TV and the newspapers, everybody talked about "the romance between Sting and Argentina".
A short note about the merchandising: programme, U$S 15, a t-shirt (tour 2000, no mention to Buenos Aires), U$S 25, poster U$S 10. Were the prices the same in other countries?
The concert will be aired next Saturday on one Buenos Aires radio (Aspen, 17 hs.) and we think it will be televised soon.
Hope for the next generations: our 8 years old niece enjoyed the concert so much that she is already looking forward to see Sting again.
Just arrived from a 1200km and 16 hour trip from Buenos Aires, yes : that the distance and time it takes to see Sting in Argentina, at least for me.
The concert was so incredibly great that it seemed too short for me.... The set list was similar although I d ve liked to listen to Ghost Story.
Isn't Sting a little bit more of a dancer now? what about Desert Roses moves???
Anyway. there is no much to add: the sound was perfect. his voice was so clear... and I m sure all of us in Velez, including him enjoyed the evening, big time.
Little note: it s just my impression or there were more people than the last time??
