NBC Television Studios, Rockerfeller Plaza - New York, New York, United States [Saturday Night Live]

by Beth Meetsma on February 25, 1996

I was at the NBC studios last night for the dress rehearsal of Saturday Night Live with Elle and Sting. Some of the skits that were rehearsed didn't make the final broadcast cut.

One that we didn't see on TV was "The Nude Crusade." A medieval Elle and two male companions petitioned the Pope to sanction an all-nude crusade to recapture the Holy Land. As the Pope's advisor, Sting stood by dressed in a black cassock, wringing his hands and doing pained double-takes. At the climax of the skit, Sting announced that he had been completely won over by the nudists' proposal, thereupon whipping off the cassock to reveal his perfectly-toned bod wearing nothing but a grin and a *very* tiny red bikini.

"Be Still My Beating Heart," indeed. It seems yoga has much to recommend it.

Incidentally, the Australian Phone Sex Line skit was funnier in rehearsal -- Sting stopped the show by falling off his motorcycle and stumbling off the set.

Still hoping for March 2 tickets!
