Hey, we just returned from seeing the first 5 Sting shows in Europe. Two opening shows at the Royal Albert Hall, 1 in Brussels, and 2 in Rotterdam. There were supposed to be five shows at the Albert Hall, but (you guessed it) Sting was still sick. Glad he saved up his energy because his voice was superb - almost unreal in London.
Don't want to give it all away, but I will say that Seven Days and Nothin' 'bout Me were my favorites. As with Jeremiah Blues, they are very different performed live. The band is very tight as a result of their experience together, though some may say that the raw edge of a new band is missing. Overall, show is fun, the playing exuberant. Total time - about 1 hour 45 minutes. Local concert reviews were all very positive.
I was lucky enough to see the first show of this tour in London back in March of last year. The set list has hardly changed at all since then (he dropped Penny Lane and picked up Demo Man and made several other minor changes). The band, as has been mentioned here, is VERY tight and I see no reason why they could not throw in a few more cover versions and actually have a little fun with the whole thing. As it is, it looks like they are on autopilot. Sure, it is easy for everyone (from the light crew to the soundboard) but it is boring. Having said that, the show is excellent. But it would probably be better if they were a little more adventurous. My two cents.
