National Exhibition Center - Birmingham, England

by Jane Turner on March 26, 2000

It was my turn to see Sting yesterday.

The NEC was full (12000) of people, many of whom who seemed a little old to be die hard Police fans like me. But they tried their best, bless 'em. They didn't know the words very well but managed to clap in the right places!!

If you've Sting before then you know exactly what to expect as there really isn't anything radically different on this tour. The best songs that we know and love are there (Mad About You, Bring on the Night, When the World is Running Down, Every Little Thing) as well as a fabulous new arrangement of Roxanne that puts anything that Puff Daddy attempted in the shade. It was good to Sting performing Moon Over Bourbon Street with good humour, giving us a Louis Armstrong impression and injecting a bit of camp into Tomorrow We'll See. I was surprised that Desert Rose didn't get a rapturous reception considering that it was a chart single a few weeks back. Maybe the audience was more out of touch than I thought.

The merchandise was expensive and we were given vouchers to buy concert photos from that night's show, but not sure of the cost.

Overall it was a fantastic concert that flew by despite it's two and a half hour duration.

The biggest disappointment was that it had to end.
