Messehalle - Freiburg, Germany

by Ruediger Hoeckel on June 7, 2000

Here is a short review of yesterday's concert: Freiburg, Neue Messehalle (factory-like hall)

bad news:
- no "I'm so happy"
- no "Message" (which he did in Mallorca)
- new male background singer (well, I don't care for Darryl Toots(sp?) but what about our beloved Chantal Taylor (sp? - sorry, I really don't know their names)
- Kipper still on crutches

good news:
- once again a fascinating version of "Roxanne" -> I just LOVE this bassline (some say Masoko Tanga-like)
- Dominic had quite a lot of fun this time
- "Mackie Messer" (as usual in Germany) and even one line of this Brecht/Weill song at the END of "Moon Over Bourbon Street"

interesting news:
- this time there was no break between "Desert rose" and "Bring on the night/When the world" -> it sounded more like a medley... (like he did at the beginning of the MF tour with "This cowboy song/When the world...".
Well, far more interesting was that Dominic really had to hurry to get his guitar for the "Bring on the night"-part (it seemed that this was a spontaneous idea of Sting). And then Sting sang the words of "When the world..."(!!!!) instead the usual "The afternoon has gently...passed me by...the evening spreads itself against...the sky-hy"

You should have seen Dominic's face...

Anyway, after the usual BOTN chords they finally started "When the world..."
