Gwardia Stadium - Warsaw, Poland
Yeah - It happened to me just yesterday. I am in a kind of shock
right now, so my thoughts and short comments will not be too concise -
sorry for this.
Sting in Warsaw, 18.06.1996 (30.000 people attended - Gwardia
Stadium, sold out)
- He started with "Hounds of Winter" and, IMHO, this is a PERFECT
start for Sting's concert on this tour (If I ever... seems worse at this
place I think). The song seemed very powerful to me at the beginning of
this event
- The biggest surprise and shock for me - the concert version of
Lithium Sunset. It was VERRRY different from the album version and
VERRRY RRROCKING. What Sting has done to the song is something
astonishing for me. In fact, I am not able to explain right now what
happened exactly but it was VERY pleasant to be surprised this way.
- I have always thought that Sting cannot and will not surprise me
with Roxanne played live in front of me - I WAS WRONG! Roxanne + +
trombone? The answer is YES!!! It was very different, even more
reggae-like than before and it made me smile and thrill. I felt like a
rastaman for a little while listening to the song.
- First disappointment - he didn't play I'm So Happy..., The Bed's
Too Big..., This Cowboy Song. I am very angry with that. The concert
seemed too short for me. Shorter than other concerts on the tour. He
played Demolition Man and it was rather boring for me. The song was
played in a very "rocky" manner but still it was not interesting - sorry
to write this...
- From the middle of the show it started raining cats and dogs. I've
caught a cold...
- Sting had met with our president before the show took place and I
am not happy with that at all (Kwasniewski is a communist, you know...
Sorry for this tone - I had to write this).
- Having included The Memphis Horns in his touring band, Sting made
the picture more attractive and interesting. The things that they did on
the stage were very crazy and funny - it made people laugh - me too.
- The Polish crowd was screaming, jumping and singing together with
Sting and it was a very optimistic picture for me...
- Sting seemed to be in a very good humor, despite the weather, as
the English football team had won with the Dutch 4:1. The rumor says
that he was late for the concert because he had watched the match.
That's all for now. Sorry for any mistakes - the shock doesn't want
to go away (that is very good, I think...)
I pray for a decent boot from the tour.
